Good analysis DC.ill give it an overall B
I love the Johnson pick, most people thought he was the best S in the draft, Speilman had him at 17 on his board and got him at 42.
The Booty pick is an amazing one, i love it, A+ to the FO on that one.
THe Guion pick kinda makes me scratch my head, i wouldnt have minded if we draft him if Carl Nicks was off the board, but he was there, and fell into our laps, and we passed on him. Its the only pick i dont like.
John Sullivan, a great pick in the 6th round, Birks replacement if he leaves next year.
Jaymar Johnson, looks like a solid return guy, he cuts so quickly, he might get Ferg cut, but id like to see Johnson make the team
BTW good game for the Pens today.

Re: Rate our draft by grade
I think our draft is a solid one. You factor in the fact that our draft basically brought us Jared Allen and I have to give us at least a B+.
With Allen we got the pass-rusher we need that could put our defense into the upper echelon of the league. I think that Johnson is a solid pick and will provide depth and future at a position that we need both at.
David Booty fell in our laps and is a great project over the next year or two if T-Jack does not pan out. I think he could fit in nicely with our WCO.
I like the Sullivan pick too and the pick of Guion is somewhat of a head scratcher considering that there were still OL on the table that would fit some needs, but we can use a little depth at DT I guess.
I like what we did with our picks and with our trade and think we have good things to look forward to in Viking Land.

Re: Rate our draft by grade
Considering where we got many of our players, I'm pretty happy with the draft. At first I wasn't, but as I'm looking back at the whole thing, I realize that we did pretty good with the little picks we had (both in numbers and in value) but there are some picks that could have been better based on the players still on the board.
Tyrell Johnson
B
(many others good players on the board, but Tyrell has potential)
John David Booty
B+ (considering where we got him, this is a very nice pick, he fits perfectly into our style of offense)
that DT guy (forgot his name)
?
John Sullivan
A-
Jaymar Johnson
? (knew nothing about him so I did some research and he's looking pretty good)
Overall grade of Vikings' 2008 draft: B

Re: Rate our draft by grade
Jared Allen: A+
One of the best defensive players in the league, enough said.
Tyrell Johnson:
A
Gives us a stud replacement for Sharper, and gives us great depth and will play special teams this year. He arguable could have gone as high as the first round and was ranked as the number one safety by many people.
John David Booty:
B
The perfect fit for this offense and will provide solid depth behind Jackson, as well as an insurance policy for next year if Jackson doesn't work out. I was expecting him to go in the 3rd round, so I think we (again) got great value here.
Letroy Guion B
He seems like a boom/bust type of pick who really needs a lot of coaching to be really effective. He is only 20 years old though, and after learning behind two of the best for a couple of years he has the potential to be a stud.
John Sullivan A
Another great value pick, and seems to be the heir apparent to Birk. He immediately gives us better depth on the interior line.
Jaymar Johnson C
I'm not so sure about this pick, I think we already have enough young, practice squad type receivers. I'm not sure if he makes the roster. He does bring great speed and quickness though, and might earn a roster spot on special teams.
Overall: A

Re: Rate our draft by grade
I liked the T-John draft pick. I don't watch hardly any college football, but fom the videos I watched he not only looks like a good safety, but he brings a lot to the special teams side of the game.
That is where I see his biggest impact this year & that could help out a lot on pinning teams back instead of giving them great field position.
With that said, I'm looking forward to him laying the wood to David Hester.

Re: Rate our draft by grade
D+
Other then the Allen trade we would have gotten a F
Should have picked Brohm first. Best fir for our WCO.
Then an OL. There were still quite a few left.
Who the heck is Letroy Guion??? I mean, come on
Sullivan may make it though. He comes from a great school )

Re: Rate our draft by grade
Tyrell Johnson - We just found our replacement for Sharper and solidified the safety position with him and Williams this off season. Good move here. B+
John David Booty - If you told me earlier this year that he would fall out of the top 30 picks I'd say you're nuts. If you told me he'd fall to the 5th round and go to us I'd get a hard on. We know he can play or at least he is set up to play. He needs some coaching. A
Letroy Guion - He seems to be injured often and that makes him remind me of Erasmus. If he stays healthy he might be able to come in for Pat and Kevin when they're tired or on passing downs, but I'm not holding my breath. Would have much rather taken Owen Schmitt with this pick. D+
John Sullivan - He always struck me as one of the better centers in the nation. If he beats out Mozes he wins my vote for Birk's replacement. B
Jaymar Johnson - Don't know much about this guy other than the fact he's fast. Reminds me of Allison in a sense. You can't coach speed, so let's hope this guy works out and gives us some return options. No one this late in the draft could really help us much except maybe Wesley Woodyard. C+

Re: Rate our draft by grade
I gave it a C- because I think we wasted picks on trades over the weekend.
This year's draft compared to last year's draft was night and day.
T. Johnson: B+
The only reason this isn't an A is because I don't think we should have given up a 4th for him when there was a good chance we could have got him just a few picks later.
If not, we would have still had a lot of good players to choose from there.
JDB: C-
"Baby Hands" Booty is a 2nd stringer in college and a 3rd stringer in the NFL.
Hope he turns out to be a steal, but I liked Johnson and even Ryan O'Hara better than him.
Letroy Guion: D-
A backup with character issues at a position that was not really a need this year.
Waste of a pick IMO.
John Sullivan: C+
I like the fact that we got a center, but he was the leader of an offensive line that gave up 58 sacks last season!
Why wouldn't we get Steve Justice (who was still available)?
He was clearly the second best C in the draft.
Jaymar Johnson: C
Sounds like Chandler Williams all over again.
Won't beat out AA or Fergy, so what is the point?
We could have got Brian Johnston >
Luckily we used 3 of our draft picks to get Jared Allen, making this draft grade really an A, but I think that we did a poor job of utilizing our remaining picks this year.
Hopefully I am wrong and they all turn out to be Pro-Bowlers, but today I am not thrilled.Rock out with your cock out!!!
