QB situation unsettled, Vikings ramp up draft prep

    http://www.mitchellrepublic.com/event/article/id/50309/group/homepage/

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) — If the Minnesota Vikings were ever tempted to ignore the old take-the-best-player-available strategy and focus on a particular position in the first round of the draft, this would surely be the year.
This little gem is music to my ears:
The West Coast system that head coach Brad Childress and offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell installed is essentially gone, with Leslie Frazier and Bill Musgrave now in place. The Vikings plan to tailor their scheme around their best players to fit their skills, rather than the other way around.
    Wow, neat concept.

And yet, if you listen to Leslie and really look at what Musgrove brings to the table, the music quickly fades to some infant banging on the piano and not playing anything at all.

They are gonna run the same offense that they ran pre-Noodle. Basically Marty ball, which by the way, I think you were all for in one thread until I pointed out the similarities. :P

A confident, healthy Christian Ponder impresses at the NFL Scouting Combine

    http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thedailydolphin/2011/02/27/a-confident-healthy-christian-ponder-impresses-at-the-nfl-scouting-combine/

I think Frazier and Spielman really need to at least give this kid a look as a second round draft choice. All this kid keeps doing is proving his critics wrong and I think he can successfully run the West Coast Offense effectively. Take BPA in round 1 then nab Ponder in Round 2. Nuff said.

INDIANAPOLIS — Auburn QB Cam Newton‘s tractor-beam effect on the media at the NFL Scouting Combine continued Sunday as he was the center of attention during on-field drills before appearing on “NFL Total Access” to discuss his performance.

Combine Newton on workout: ‘I was somewhat frustrated’

Way to go Cam, start practicing those excuse for things go wrong :-)

I underestimated the timing aspect of playing quarterback
so WTF has he been doing whilst at college? I can't claim to know much about him but making crap statements like this won't endear to many people I'm sure.
Time spent annoying a Packer fan is never time wasted...

For some reason I just can't figure out were the top 5 QB's are gonna go. We should have a crack a one of the top 3 or 4, depending on how they are ranked, at 12 and could still see the same cats there when our second rolls around.

On a side note, I was very impressed with Koepernick, Stanzi, Ponder and Dalton. Again, not alot of difference between those kids and the top 4 or 5 IMHO based on what Mayock and crew were talking this weekend.

    nope.

the offense will not be the same.
    How will it differ?

Again, they will get away from the ZB'ing scheme and put a bigger emphasis on running, but nothing else will change.

Still gonna be a WCO scheme, using multiple TE's, H-backs/FB's and 2 WR sets. Thats Musgroves MO. Surely you don't think they brought him in to run a scheme he isn't familiar with.

Thats almost as silly as saying that we should change the whole scheme to fit one player, or even believing that we would have one player on the roster that doesn't fit the scheme.

    We have three,
Rice, Harving and BB. Neither of them are the route running specialist this scheme needs. I think playbooks should be fluid and believe it our not, there are a lot of guys out there drooling of creating a playbook around Peterson, Haring and possible Rice.

You can't even seriously use the WCO moniker any more because it has been modified, diluted and adjusted to the point that it is no longer recognizable when put side by side with what Walsh did.

So with that being said: Are the steelers running the WCO? Is that the same offense that Childress ran? Is the offense the Falcons the same offense that the eagles ran and the same offense that San Diego and New England run?
