Possible DE answers in free agency
With the reports about Odom not coming here i gave the free agent defensive ends a look..
http://www.nfl.com/players/ebenezerekuban/profile?id=EKU088990
Ebenezer Ekuban, He lost the intire 2007 season with an injury, i think in the knee.. Developed into a starter for the Broncos in 2006 and had 7.0 sacks, before that he had 4.0 in 2005 and 8.0 in 2004 while playing for the Browns
Any takers?, he might come at an ok price because he is coming of an injury.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/stats?playerId=2432
James Hall, The former Lion had only 2,5 sacks with the Rams last year, but have had 24 sacks over the last 4 seasons..
He had an 11.5 sack season in 2004..
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=5567
Travis LaBoy..
Odoms "backup" i think, from Tennessee had 6 sacks last year, 4 years in the league and a total of 19,5 sacks.
Only 26 years old.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=5774
Bobby McCray
Had a nice season in 2006 with 10 sacks, but was a little injuried in 2007 which led to only 3 sacks, which came in the 3 games of the regular season,
Had a sack and a safety in their playoff game vs the Steelers
Javon Kearse..
The freak has had a fall in production and is used as a situational passrusher in Philly. I dont really think that he is much more than what a guy like Edwards can be for us.
...........
Outside of Bobby McCray, i really dont see anything good in this class.. We could add Ekuban, but i think that we might sign McCray, ive heard we have some kind of interest in him, he had a visit with the Saints but left without a contract..
I dont know what kind of money he is looking for but really think that we should leave defensive end for the draft.
The current defensive ends that will be availible for 2007 as it looks right now for the Vikes is
Ray Edwards
Brian Robison
Erasmus James
Jayme Mitchell
Otis Grigsby
(Kenechi Udeze)
I dont know about Kenechi, but it seems that we will have to spend next season on IR i would think.
Ray Edwards provided some ok passrush with 5 sacks, but seemed more like a situational passrusher, the same with Robison.
We have no idea how good Erasmus James is, lets pray for him to stay healty this year.
Mitchell and Grigsby arent going to fix our starting problems.
To sum it up.. we are in deep :>
I hope we can hit the jackpot in the draft or get some kind of trade for some kind of player, however passrushers has become to valuable to teams now that the price might be too high for us to do, and were NOT trading Chester Taylor.

Whats up with Erasmus? Is he going to be healthy for next year?

But we won't know for sure until the season starts.Zeus wrote:

miami just announced that they will allow Jason Taylor to find another team since he does not want to play for Parcells. What would you think?

Re: Possible DE answers in free agency
I don't really see anyone in FA right now thats better then Ray Edwards or Brian Robison. That one guy was Justin Smith but he screwed up.
Mcray played 14 games last year, someone said he played 3. His tackle production is extremely low.
Odom is the only guy worthy of beating out our current guys who are very young. Odom had a decent season and batted down 7 passes i like that, something Kevin Williams does very well and something Justin Smith does well too. I don't think Odom is worthy of the money but then again he is age 26 perfect time to get him but for some reason we don't think he fits what we do.
If not Odom I say role with what we got and draft somebody farely early on. I like Ray Edwards and Robison.

We have 2 young and hungy studs waiting in the wings.
They both played exceptionally well last year and gave us a lot of hope.

Do we package our picks to move up in the draft and sign one in the top 10?
