PFT: Vikes to pursue Bentley as replacement for Birk?

BENTLEY TO MINNESOTA?
Center LeCharles Bentley, who was released earlier on Wednesday by the Browns, could be the next starting center of the Minnesota Vikings.
Warning: this is just Florio's ramblings and not any inside information.
Nonetheless, it involves the Vikes.

For the record, Bentley played four years with New Orleans before moving to Cleveland and hurting himself.
Two of those years he spent at right guard (pro bowl in 2003), and two at center (pro bowl in 2005).
It remains to be seen whether he can overcome the injury and complications and return to his previous level of play.

I don't agree with the theory that he'll end up here.
Our interior line situation is pretty good, which combined with our shrinking cap space makes me think that the Vikes are unlikely to pursue this guy.
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

DIdn't we go after Bentley a few years back?
I seem to recall that and we wanted to switch him to Tackle or Guard.

Intresting I could have swore I was watching NFL Network yesterday and he was on there bragging about how strong he was and how the injury was gonna make him better. None the less LeCharles is or was a beast, he's a solid body at Center.

Three. You keep forgetting about Mattran.

I believe the Vikes were interested (or at least the fans were).
He would have either played RG or C depending on whether Birk's health problems continued.

Quite possibly.
But neither of them have made it onto an NFL field, let alone made a pro bowl.
Still, I think it makes more sense to keep those guys at this point.

Also, if the Browns (who actually got a good look at his current condition) thought Bentley was going to be at his old ability level, wouldn't they find a spot for him?

I disagree with that.
As Childress often says, the team is always looking at ways to get better and improve the roster.
I don't think they'd be doing their jobs if they didn't at least look at it.
I doubt it goes as far as a phone call to the agent though.

True I forgot about him and if push comes to shove Cook could move back to Center. Yeah I know "He's to tall" but I think he is more of a Center than a tacckle and given a chance would do well at the positiion
