No way on earth that the Pack take Ngate, or that Hawk drops to 11.

Ngata is on his way down on many boards.

If the Pack don't pick up Hawk he will be taken by the 49'ers at the latest.

Thanks to PPE for the sig.

LB's have a nasty habit of sliding in the draft. You never know.

    Re: Pat Kirwan's Mock Draft

Derrick Johnson fell to KC last year. No one thought he would fall out of the top 10. And that was in a draft very shallow at LB. I personally prefer us staying at where we are picking the best LB available. At #17 that would either be Sims or Greenway. I don't agree with the TE pick in the second either. Most analysts forget that we have Jimmy K playing TE because he had a very quiet year. I expect our first 2nd round pick to be a QB. Clemson's ability to perform well under 3 new systems in 5 years impresses me very much. But that's about all I know about him .

if Hawk actually fell that far there's almost no doubt we'll at least make an effort to trade up. I also hope that if we can't get him we get Sims, because he's a much better fit for the Cover 2 than Greenway. And a TE in the 2nd?

Sims has more speed than Greenway, but Greenway is quite a bit taller, has very good ball instincts and drops back in coverage with very natural hip movements (he looked like a CB in the passing drill at the combine and better than a lot of safeties I saw). I think Sims accels more in pursuit utilizing his speed and agressiveness. I think Greenway would do very well in a cover2, their areas of coverage should not be that deep (10-15yds.), so sprinting speed not that big of a factor. You mainly want the LB's to be in the right position and making the throwing angle as difficult as possible. Whether he's the right guy to pick at #17 I'm not so sure, I also think he needs to beef up a bit (much easier to do than learn how to play football though). I think both Sims and Greenway will make good LB's in the NFL, but I put more risk on Sims than Greenway. This draft could go in a hundred different directions, going to be an interesting next few weeks.
