A scout from a playoff team was asked to assess the main Vikings' free-agent signings, and this was what he offered:

Chester Taylor, running back: "I'm not convinced that they won't draft a guy high this year. I don't think there's anything special about Taylor."

Ben Leber, linebacker: "I'm a big fan of Ben's, not as an all-around athletic guy, just in the sense he knows how to play. He's a big, physical backer who knows how to use his hands. He's always around the ball."

Tank Williams, safety: "You love to see him get off the bus, but when he steps on the field, the physical presence doesn't translate. He's big and rangy, but not fluid."

Steve Hutchinson, left guard: "I love him. I can't say enough good things about him."

Outside view on new Vikings

"Utah coach Jerry Sloan has buried second-year forward Kris Humphries deeper than ever this month. Entering Monday's game, Humphries had played in only five of the past 10 games. He played 26 minutes total in the other five games, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.

As a rookie, he averaged 13 minutes a game, and he's down to 10:20 this season. His shooting percentage also is slightly down, from 40.4 percent to 39."

Hey he played like 5 minutes yesterday lol! I met him once at a Blaze game. Seemed nice. Maybe if he was better he would play more........
