    Other than Calvin Johnson

What I find interesting is that all the "experts" are saying this draft is so "rich" in good wide receivers that the Vikings can drop down and still be in good shape.
Other than Calvin Johnson, who would you draft in the first or second or third round that will give us a good wide receiver.
I don't think Ginn is the answer. How about Dwayne Bowe?
What other WR do you know that has good speed and good hands because I doubt we're going to get CJ. And where do we draft a good tight end?

    Re: Other than Calvin Johnson

Sidney Rice WR 6'4 202 South Carolina So.

Even though he only played two seasons of college ball, Sidney Rice was one of the best receivers in the country. As a redshirt freshman in 2005, he hauled in 70 passes for 1,143 yards and 13 touchdowns, earning various Freshman All American honors, and was named to the All SEC 1st team. As a sophomore, he became a marked man but still had 72 catches for 1,090 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Rice has a fantastic combination of size and athleticism. He has a long, lanky frame which presents a big target for his quarterback. He combines that size with excellent athleticism and body control, and is near impossible to stop in one on one situations. Rice is not afraid of contact, and should be a force in the red zone.

With just two years of experience, Rice may need a little time for round out his skills. He could also stand to add a few pounds to better handle physical defensive backs in the NFL.

Rice has big time potential, and had he returned to school, could have developed into a Top 10 pick. Even though Jeff Samardzija has decided to play with the Cubs instead of the NFL, Rice is in a battle with quite a few receivers to be the second receiver selected after Calvin Johnson.

Johnnie Lee Higgins WR 5'11 183 UTEP

Higgins had a solid year for a freshman in 2003, hauling in 25 balls for 362 yards. As a sophomore, he established himself as one of the most explosive threats in the country. He was a 2nd team WAC selection after finishing the year with 34 catches for 700 yards and 10 touchdowns. The Miners then moved to Conference USA and Higgins continued to make plays. He was a 2nd team C-USA selection in 2005, hauling in 49 balls for 837 yards and nine touchdowns. Higgins exploded this year, posting career highs across the board, with 82/1319/13. He also averaged over 23 yards per punt return, taking two back for touchdowns.

Explosive is the best way to describe Higgins. He is a legitimate threat to take it the distance every time he touches the football. He is a very good athlete, and has excellent quickness and speed. He also shows the ability to go up and get the football in one on one situations. Higgins doesn’t just operate on the outside or vertically. He will go over the middle and make plays as well.

Higgins may have trouble with physical defensive backs. He only has average size and isn’t the strongest receiver. He has the toughness to work in the red zone and over the middle, but his body may not allow him to do it on a consistent basis.

There aren’t many more wideouts in this draft that are as explosive as Higgins. For a team that wants speed and a playmaker at WR, Higgins is an excellent option. With good workouts he may be able to push himself into first round consideration.

Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

There should be lots out there on Gonzalez.
Ginn was the flashy "play-maker", but every time I tuned into an OSU game, it was Gonzalez making the big catch.

    Anthony Gonzalez, WR, Ohio State
With one exception, Gonzalez had an ordinary performance in passing drills at the combine, but that was largely not his fault. In many drills, Gonzalez had to fall to the ground or reach with one hand because the passes were well off-target. His best moment came when he made a twisting catch on a 35-yard corner post on a pass behind him. He wasn't able to make acrobatic catches on the other poor throws.

Gonzalez didn't drop any easy throws and caught all seven passes in the gauntlet drill. He lost his footing making his break on a sideline-tap-tap pattern. He showed nice fluidity coming out of his breaks. Overall, this was not a performance that will significantly help or hurt him. Gonzalez ran a 4.44 in the 40, which was seventh-fastest in his group of receivers.
