Once again, the Vikings FO proves that they know more than me...

    OK, I'll admit it.

When the Vikings traded up in the second, I was convinced that we were picking up a QB.
    Come on, we all were.
When they didn't, I was shocked.
Across the purple nation, we were all thinking the same thing... WTF.

Now that the draft is over and I sit back and look at our picks, I see once again that there is a reason Speilman, Childress, et al. are in football operations, and I am a software engineer.
They are better at it than I am.
In the end we got a stud of a safety who can contribute this year if needed, a QB who is ready to learn the system and could very well compete for the starting position in a year or two, and depth on our lines.
(and a WR too, but he looks to be practice fodder)

Add this to the blockbuster deal to bring in the NFL sack leader and create arguably the best DL in football, and the Vikings are looking very, very good.

So my hat is off to the FO for a very successful offseason so far.
Thank God that the average fan like me doesn't work in the front office.

agreed. I didn't think they were taking QB in the 2nd, the thought never crossed my mind, but I didn't think they'd grab who they did.
Looks like a very solid pickup, and we didn't have to give up too much to move up both times.

Every move was well thought out, and we picked quality over quantity.

I'm right there with ya Paul......

After listening to Brohm on the radio I actually believed he was gonna be the man.
I even hung my ass out and told my father in law, watch, its gonna be Brohm.

Much to my chagrin (at the time) it wasn't him.

But hey, what the heck does a yutz like me know.
    ;D

What I wouldn't give to get to sit in that (or any) warroom for just an hour while they are picking.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

Re: Once again, the Vikings FO proves that they know more than me...

When I got home last night and saw who we had taken I was surprised that we had not selected an OT at all. However it was interesting that players taken were at positions that had been mentioned in posts on PPO that people considered we had ageing vets playing at ie S & C. At the same time we picked up a QB who would have time to develop into a good backup or maybe starter should TJ not cut it this year.

So overall, given the few picks we had, I think the FO did do a good job this year in relation to looking at the future needs in time instead of just looking at the immediate matters.

I would like to see something done in terms of providing some obvious move on the OL both for upgrade and depth as well.

I too saw the trade up but I didn't assume Brohm. I wanted Brohm and I needed Brohm but I knew they were going someplace else. I never thought safety. I thought Sweed or Davis.

I like the safety they took. However, i knew we weren't talking OT.

    This is boring.

I want to see a thread from the people that think they know more than the professional staff and their justifications as to why they know more.
    Much more interesting.

I am unaware that there are any such threads. You probably better start one.

I too was WTFing all over the room when I saw the trade..."Oh pooh!
Guess its our yearly penance to Philly," ran threw my head!
I wasn't really thinking QB, cuz I just figured there would be a later project there, but OT, WR, and DT were all possibilities in my mind.
S was a spot I considered covered with starters Sharper and Williams, backups in Boulware and Frampton.

Then, after studying the teams between us, the video and analysis of Tyrell, and how his S ranking had moved recently, I was stoked!!
Kid looks like a beast of a baller!
    Stronger and faster than Sharper?
    Great hands for a DB.
Runs like a rocket to the play and blows it up!!!
This kid will impress on ST early and often, and likely get playing time this year on D too.
Some folks are concerned about Madieu's injury history, and Sharper isn't young anymore.
There was some mention of his ability to play CB and also do some returns.
High character and versatility seem to be our new trademarks...and Special Teams!
What better way to build team chemestry than by getting everybody involved in STs?

We've been talking about which roster spots we felt were wideopen, and how we had more picks than needs.
We got younger at most of the positions we were concerned about through the draft, and perhaps scored a gem or three in our pile of UDFA.

Once again, THANKS WILFS and THANKS FO!!!!!
For what looks to go down as one of the best Vikings Off Seasons ever!
    SKOL!!!!!!!!!
Control the line, control the time, and give your D a chance to shine!!
