I agree with what you say about the running back position, "I dont think we will or should sign a big name guy like alexander, james, or jamal lewis". Remember what a bust Hershell Walker was?

Shaun Alexander and Edgerrin James are no Herschel Walker. When we got Walker he had ONE 1,000 yard season in his career ... Alexander has five-straight and 100 career TDs already ... James has five and 75 TDs, mentioning them as free-agent signings as a bust and comparing them to trading whole drafts and multiple first-round picks for an average running back is not really in the same league ... unless you are saying the Vikes are such an organization that they could take 1800 yard 25 TD backs and make them awful ...

I would not mind seeing us keep Onterrio at all ... it is a big risk though.

No doubt, need to keep him for sure!

Big Spence! (my son's name also)
I think he was talking about Lance Johnstone.

I'm pretty sure that Spencer Johnson is still under contract for at least another year or two. Anyone know for sure?

I'm not really convinced we need a big name running back. We had a great rushing game the last few years when the O-line was performing well and we had a dangerous passing attack. I think we still have the weapons to have that dangerous passing attack if we fixed the O-line problems.

1st we had Bennett, he'd get hurt and Moe Williams chewed everyone up, then it was Mewelde Moore, then Intarrio Smith. Each of them looking as good if not better than the guy they replaced. Then we had our O-line problems/injuries, etc....and now all of our RB's turn average.

A strong O-line solves a lot of offensive woes.

If we gave him the starting job, then yeah, it'd be a huge risk, cuz who knows when he'll get suspended again. He's shown me that we shouldn't have any confidence in him - he's had many wakeup calls and still hasn't figured it out.

On the other hand, it wouldn't be so much of a risk if we were only counting on him as a backup. Although I have no respect for him as a person (I can't stand people that have all the talent in the world and piss it all away) I do respect what he is capable of on the field if he puts his mind to it. I would be happy to see him back as a backup with a small contract. Who knows, maybe he'll take a lesson from Koren and get his life back together. We can only hope.

    Thanks PPE for the sig.

"... mentioning them as free-agent signings as a bust and comparing them to trading whole drafts and multiple first-round picks for an average running back is not really in the same league ..." - so how much would you be willing to throw down on a Shaun Alexander or Edgerrin James. I'm guessing that neither on is going to be cheap. I think we need to focus more on the o-line first.

    Re: Offseason Gameplan

I couldn't find the answers so I'll ask

What are the cap hits for Napoleon Harris, Jimmy Kleinsasser and Fred Smoot next year?

Just wondering if Jimmy will get asked to take a cut due to his knees, ( he could be better next year, hope we don't lose him ) wasn't the same player this year as he was in the past and I think he was fanchised with his last contract. Could he be a victim of a high price tag like John Randle and Sharper?

If Harris has a high cap hit will he be traded ( whats he worth and who wants him if price is high ) or would he be asked to re-do his contract or shown the door.

Smoot, bad year what can you say, Tice sat him for the last game, if Brian Williams is resigned what will happen to Fred? Victim of himself

    Re: Offseason Gameplan

One of the reasons we say smoot had such a bad year i know was the carolina game vs. steve smith. That was more of a result of bad coaching than bad smoot. It was obvious that smoot could not keep up with smith and rather than get him some help we continued to embarrass him by forcing him to go one on one with him. I did not blame him for this day because he was just outmatched.
