Re: OFFICIAL 2009 Mock Draft Thread

    Nice work JK.
Love the detailed analysis/team break downs.
How in the hell you get yours done that fast.....I still haven't even started on the Vikes.

    Quick question on our pick.

    23.
Minnesota Vikings- Now comes the moment you have all been waiting for.
The Vikings could go a few different directions here.
I know some want to take a chance on Tim Tebow, but I feel that Childress and Co. would not like Tebow as a first round talent.
The Vikings could look at a safety if they do indeed let Sharper go.
Taylor Mays is a real possibility if he can run a sub 4.5 40.
That would give us the big hitting safety this team has lacked for quite a while now.
The darkhorse pick could be a TE if Kleinny isn't resigned.
The consensus seems to be that we need to draft a RT to replace Cook, and with a couple first round possibilities on the board, I think the Vikes pull the trigger on one.

    The Pick:
    Ciron Black, OT LSU
    T-bow.
No way this staff invests a top pick on a QB.
They will use one later but not this early.
If they address the QB position it will be via FA.

    Like S here or LDE.
Value definately appears to be there at this point in the draft.
TE can/will be picked in a later round.

    As to your ultimate pick.
Not sure I see the indicators that they will pull the trigger on a OT this early.
They've stuck with Cook (Maybe if Hicks would have been healthy he would have actually sat the last few games) since the project started.
Not sure why that they would abandon it now.

Having said all that and looking at the value board, (I like the one below as it gets updated all the time):

    a.
Lots of OT talent in this draft.
They can get one anytime to add to this line if they believe Cook is sheeeyat like most arm chair fans or they move him to C.
    b.
Butt Load of Centers as well.
    Probably gonna be Sullivan anyway.
    c.
    LDE.
This position concerned me last year and it still concerns me.
I could see this as our first pick
    d.
    DT.
Sure, to the most casual of fans they would believe because we have the Wall we are set.
Problem is, the casual fans will not take into account 2 indicators.......1) The suspension still looms and 2) DT was one of the positions this staff had to address via FA during the season.
That is a sign/true indicator of lack of depth/talent.
    e.
    LB.
Again, seems to be set if we have our 3 starters on the field, but again, the primary indicator for me is that they had to go out and get a couple of guys off the street during the season.
    Not a good sign.
Add to that indicator that they brought several in last year.

Everything points to BPA in the DT, DE, or S positions at 23.

Again, great stuff My Sexy Little Pixie.
    Love the read.
    Thanks for the feedback.
As you know, I am a draft junkie, so I couldn't wait to start breaking it down.
Of course all of this will change after FA, so this was just for fun.

I don't think the Vikes want Tebow either.
I hate...well maybe hate is not the right word.
I despise the idea of Tebow being our QB.
IMO he is not an NFL quality passer.
All of his stats come from running a gimmicky offense that requires imagination by the coaches...something our coaches lack.

As for the rest of your post...

    a.
OTs are typically scooped up even when there is better value.
I guarantee all the top OTs are gone by the time we pick in the second round.
If we pass here in the first, get ready to be stuck with another project like Cook.
I don't agree with you that there are no indicators that Cook will be replaced.
They already tried to replace him with Hicks, but his elbow kept Hicks on the bench.
Cook will probably stick around as a backup.
    b.
There are a lot of quality centers this year, but Alex Mack and Mack Unger are exceptional players, and I can really envision them both being drafted in the first round by teams that need starting linemen.
    c.
LDE all depends on the health and performance of Kenechi and Mitchell.
Mitchell was looking good before he went down to injury.
    Kenechi was also playing well.
If both of them are back and ready to go, I don't think we draft a DE period.
We'd still have Allen, Robison, Edwards, Udeze, Mitchell, and possibly Grigsby.
The other thing is there are not any true LDEs with any value available at this point in my mock.
Tyson Jackson is a possibility if he is still around and the staff has concerns about LDE health.
My personal opinion would be to use a 4th or 5th round pick to draft Jarron Gilbert, a DT from San Jose State, that at 6-5 280 has ideal size to be a run stuffing LDE.
All he did was get 9 sacks, 21.5 TFL, and 3 passes broken up.
    d.
I totally agree that there is a distinct possibility they go with Phat Pat's heir apparent in round one.
This is the weakest DT class to come out in a while, so they might go for Jerry or Raji here to ensure getting a top run stuffer.
If they do, I prefer the bigger, meaner man in Raji.
There could be a couple options in round two: Moala and Marks.
    e.
It is surely a position we address in the offseason, but I think OLB is the bigger problem.
If we keep Harris, that means we'll have E.J., Napo, Ciurcui, and Farwell for MLB.
Outside we have Greenway, Leber, Erin, and Herron.
I expect DT to be gone again.
If our board has the value, we may address OLB in the first, but I'm thinking that happens in the third.
Maybe a guy like Follett, Matthews Jr., or McKenzie.

All we can do is wait and see what happens in FA, then the guessing game will have more accuracy.
Rock out with your cock out!!!

I agrew with you analysis... good stuff!!!...

Yeah, i think they look to replace cook, barring what we do in FA... I honestly feel like we go BPA.. especially if we sure up the OT in FA...

What i have a problem with is, that while i know we lack depth at DT.. unless an elite prospect is there, i don't see us going DT for a Phat pat replacement- YET!!.. our defense is about as good as anybodies... I honestly see us looking more to the offensive side of the ball...

We addressed safety last year with our first pick... no way we draft a safety unless they don't think Tyrell can cut it... you dont' draft a guy in the second round to be a back up!.. you want him to be your starter, UNLESS, a guy like Taylor Mays is there, which i don't think he will be...

CB is a more likely option there but it will probably be to replace Winfield eventually instead of Griff... Griff played head over heals better than winfield did down the stretch!!..

IMO, 1st round, assuming we get a RT in FA, we go for the best playmaker available, like a Percy Harvin, Jeremy Maclin (if he's there)..

and even if TEBOW was coming out... i don't understand the hype and ppl saying we should draft that kid.. maybe in the 3rd round... but not in the first or second.... that'd be ridiculous!!

I was out looking at Mock Drafts around the net... This one caught my eye as being pretty stupid... It has Bradford falling to #23 and being drafted by the Vikes. I don't think that will happen, but it could.

NAH, won't happen... that entire site had some questionable calls.... half the teams they had taking players, i don't see any of them taking those positions... and Sanchez going in the top 10??...and before Bradford?.. not so sure about that!!

Eli Manning refused to go to San Diego...
He forced their hand and said he refused to sign with them. But they would own his rights for a year I believe in which case he is thrown back into the draft and can be drafted by them again.
So, he can refuse to go there, but cannot play anywhere else unless the trade him. I was so hoping the Chargers would just let Eli sit out and then draft him again the next year ... I thought that would be hilarious.
