The wonderlic is regarded in many psychology circles as an inherently flawed assessment to to its lack of diversity in the comparative sample, as well as the limited methodology used to develop the original test.
While later versions are better, they still are not very good indicators of learning ability nor current knowledge.

The only reason that it is still widely used is because it is a fairly short test (50 questions) that can be administered by people with a low degree of training.
I wish the NFL would give it once and for all.
You cannot do a decent job assessing intelligence on 100+ people in a six day span.

Cool, so according to the averages, McKinnie (an OT) would average 26 while Birk (C) would average 25. I always knew McKinnie was smarter then Birk. To hell with Harvard! Now didn't McNabb score slightly lower then Forrest Gump? So what, I still like McNabb. ;D

Re: 2008 Combine Schedule of Events

The thing I question is why they don't use abbreviated versions of the more well-respected intelligence tests out there...
No doubt they take a bit longer but these have been well researched...

The most utilized intelligence (IQ) test around is the WAIS-III (Weschler Adult Intelligence Scale).
It has an abbreviated version called the WASI (Weschler Abbreviated Scale of Intelligence) which is valid and relatively well researched; certainly a leap above the Wonderlic.

Another option is the Stanford-Binet-V, which has an abbreviated form that briefly tests both verbal and nonverbal intelligence.
This has also been well-researched (and I have given a TON of these for disability evaluations).

I haven't given the WASI in a while, but I know the abbreviated SB-V can be completed in <30 minutes...
For an organization such as the NFL, they should offer a contract out to graduate students, such as those in my situation, to go to the combine to administer these in mass quantities...
Good training experiences PLUS good experiences at a reasonable cost...
    Just my $.02.

    Trust me, I'm a doctor.

I can't really get excited about the TEs.

I am waiting for the Defensive linemen and WRs.
I like the RBs, but we are not in need for a RB so it is not quite as exciting.
I would like to see Mendenhall to see how he stacks up, see if the hype is justified.
