Official 2006 Draft Thread - With Vikings eyes
All i see around in the mocks is that we pickup Maroney - lets say we get a higher pick, so Maroney is taken.. Do we pickup OG Gilles instead or Lendale White, if he enters the draft..
I would really like it if we picked up Gilles.. we can maybe steal Jerome Harrison in the 3rd round.. we could also turn out good..
He's the leading guy in Yards in NCAA
Have a look at this:
CBS has this system, like QB Rating, just with RB's
http://www.sportsline.com/collegefootball/playerrankings/regularseason/RB
He's second just behind Bush..
Here's he's profile..
With Fonoti and Gilles, and with run blocking - we could have one of the prior running games in the NFL (maybe)
As for 2nd round pick i see us taking a linebacker..
It could be this guy, if he's still avalible..
http://www.nflfans.com/x/2006/showprospect.php?key=Bobby%20Carpenter
or this guy
http://www.nflfans.com/x/2006/showprospect.php?key=Thomas%20Howard
Howard is a very quick linebacker - read his profile - also read Carpenters.. we need one of thoose two..
Could very well depend on what happens with Napo in the off-season, and D. Thomas - how good is he??
We dont need to draft any defensive backs as i see it.. we got Smoot, Winfield, Brown and Dovonte - as i see it Williams will get a starting job somewhere else - dont get me wrong i love Bwill - i just dont think he will stay..
..
Please gimme your toughts and let this thread run all the way till the draft starts

Ok, this is going to be the Official and last thread on who we should draft; we have had a ton of these and this thread did not get the "Lock" because skum put a lot of thought into it and it has content.
Good job skum.

Re: 2006 Draft - With Vikings eyes
Thank you ultra, i thought that i would be a good idea to have like an overall draft thread - instead of 10 threads about - should we draft an QB or which RB should we draft..

Re: 2006 Draft - With Vikings eyes
There are a lot of good RB's out there. I wouldn't be surprised if we got someone like Dontrelle Moore or Lendale White. Both will likely drop to where we will be picking. I like the idea of drafting a Running Back. I am tired of seeing The same old same old with Bennett and Moore getting injured... Should be interesting to see whether we go to FA or the draft to get a new starter..

Re: 2006 Draft - With Vikings eyes
Here's how i see our draft going.
Round 1: Lendale White, RB USC
Round 2: D'Qwell Jackson, LB Maryland
Round 3: Manny Lawson, DE NC State (convert him to LB. Has the athletecism and would do well at the position. Risk with possible reward)
Round 4: Aldo De Garza, OG Texas A&M
Round 5: Zach Streif, OT Northwestern
I won't go any farther but I would be so happy with a draft like that. Maybe take a guard or tackle earlier rather than lawson or D'Qwell..

Re: 2006 Draft - With Vikings eyes
I dont know that LenDale will fall below like 15, I think he goes No. 3 of the running backs behind Bush and D.Williams. We may get a shot at Maroney, but for some reason I dont think he is gonna pan out all that well ... I would love to see us get a LB that can make a difference, but I dont know that AJ Hawk (probably top 5 pick) or Ahmad Brooks (if he enters) would fall that far ... so who knows, better to talk about these things after the season when a lot more can actually be discussed and make sense.

as for who we draft I would like to see a RB back taken in the first round, LB in the second round, and after that start looking at O line men.
This draft has a lot of O line talent and teams always seem to find quality linemen later in the draft. Being able to get a stub RB early would be huge for us!

You must mean Chad Greenway...he is a superb pass defending LB and I'd love for the Vikes to get him.I'm thinking one of the Iowa lb's, hodge and that other guy
But I am torn between him and PurplePeopleEater's suggestion...living here in MD right now, I've seen a lot of D'Qwell Jackson and he is an all-around ball hawking stud. He does well in blitzes, had good instincts and great speed.
I think either one of these guys is a must for the Vikes 2006 draft."Meet at the quarterback!" -Purple People Eaters

Way too early to seriously discuss a draft. Our needs and "expert" draft prospects will both dramatically change within the next five months.
That is, of course, unless we are the Houston Texans or the Green Bay Packers.
