    Observations From Tuesday, July 31

Well, I'm about to head out my door and take the ten minute drive to MSU and hit up training camp.
I'll be sure to give a full recap as I did last time, and this time I'm bringing a camera.
I don't have anything expensive, so these aren't going to be professional pictures.

I'll update the thread when I get back.

Re: Observations From Tuesday, July 31

Alright, I'll spill everything I can remember; then I'll try to post a few pictures.

I was standing about ten feet from where the running backs were doing the drills, so I got a good look at Adrian Peterson right away.
He went through the ropes and through the cones with more ease than anyone.
It just seemed easy for him, and he did it with a lot of burst.

When they did a scrimmage on the practice fields, they were too far away for me to see anything.
They practiced on the middle field.
I think that's when Chester Taylor went down, so I didn't see who hit him.

    Then the fun part started.
The team went into Blakeslee Stadium and did a full scrimmage.
At first it was just wrap up, then after a break they came back and did full contact, to the ground.
With Taylor out, Peterson took all the reps at running backs with the first team.
He didn't do anything, and honestly, it was because the defensive line was just all over us.
Throughout the whole scrimmage, our defense shined.
They had a few sacks, stops in the backfield, and four interceptions, three of those picks went all the way for touchdowns.

In the first scrimmage series, the first team offense went up against the second team defense.
I was pretty disappointed, because the first team offense only got one first down before getting stopped.
So then it was the second team offense against the first team defense.
The drive was cut short pretty quickly when Dwight Smith picked off the Brooks Bollinger pass and ran it all the way back.
Then it was third team offense against third team defense.
Once again, the drive ended with an interception for a touchdown.
Charles Gordon made a great break on the ball and ran it back without being touched.
Then it was the premiere matchup, first team offense against first team defense.
The offense got a first down, courtesy of a Peterson catch and run, but then the guy that has been impressing everyone stopped the drive.
Tarvaris Jackson rifled a ball to Bobby Wade, only to have it snagged out of the air by Marcus McCauley, who ran to the endzone for a touchdown.
EJ Henderson also had a sack on that matchup.
Then the last one of the day was second team against second team, and finally the offense made some plays.
Mewelde Moore caught a screen pass on third down and went down the sideline for a big gain.
Two plays later, he ran for another first down.
They ended it with Ryan Longwell draining two field goals.

There is the rundown, now for my thoughts on the day...

    Tarvaris Jackson sucked.
    Plain and simple.
He couldn't even complete a pass in 7-on-7 drills.
He threw three interceptions throughout the day, and missed his receivers badly quite a few times.
    He just seemed way off.

Adrian Peterson didn't have a great day.
In running back drills he was getting chewed out for not doing things right, and he fumbled in the scrimmage.
He was getting stuffed everytime he touched the ball, but the offensive line was getting handled.

    Marcus McCauley is a stud.
That play he made to get the interception and touchdown was incredible.
He will be the nickel cornerback on opening day, no doubt in my mind.

Justin Surrency might make the team, just because of his pure hustle.
He goes all out on every play, every route, everytime.
He made a great catch in the scrimmage today, leaping and snagging a Bollingers' overthrown pass.

Any questions, feel free to ask.
I'll see about getting a gallery for a few pictures.

Thanks for the recap my friend.
Sounds like INTs are coming in bunches.

Sure hope it because of passing D is better and not because our O sucks.

I do want to be in sports journalism in the future, thanks guys.

    thevikingfan --

I wish I had news on Taylor.
I didn't even see it happen (they were on a far field) and it's not like they were telling us over loud speakers what had happened.
I know just as much as you guys as to how severe it was.

    Yeah, good work.
I was amazed how fast everything happens out there.
Plus if your trying to watch a scrimmage or 11 on 11 the KAO works so fast.

Sounds like the same crap from last year . . .

Offense can't figure their way out of a hole and the defense is earning their keep.

Is the O-Line play that bad or is the D just that much farther ahead at this point?
I know it's a long shot that you have even watched him, but how has Dan Mozes looked?
    Thanks in advance.
