    Ask the Rams and Bradford.
That proves my point thank you.

Rams 2009 (The year before they drafted Bradford)
    Round 1 - Overall Pick #2 - Jason Smith - OT - Baylor

    Rams 2008:
    Round 3 - Overall Pick # 65 - John Greco - G
    Round 5 - Overall Pick # 157 - Roy Schuening - G

No secret: Vikings plan to draft a QB
Sure at some point in the draft, but not necessarily the first.

If we trade up, we might grab one in the first round. If not, who would still be there at 12th? Is he worthy of the 12th pick of the draft?

My guess, unless someone falls to us at 12, is that the Vikings may opt to choose the BPA & grab a QB in the second or 4th. Remember, we lost our 3rd on the Moss trade.

I don't see us over paying for a QB in the first round for a QB that's projected to go in the later rounds, just for the sake of grabbing one in the first.

I hope FA will once again be our source for next years starter, if they snatch one right away. If they wait until after the minicamps to see how Webb & the drafted QB look & then decide we need a different starter, the toaster leavings that will be left at FA at the point will not cut it.

The Vikings need 2 QB's. 1 right away when FA's hits & another at some point in the draft.

Lets just hope they grab a QB at the start of FA & don't pass one up and bank on getting their starter in the draft.

Although the idea of drafting Cam Newton is becoming more and more intriguing.

I don't think Cam is going to last anywhere near our pick. By my count about half of the 11 teams picking ahead of us need a QB and several, as bad as we do!

Much like Vince Young and Jamarcus Russel, somebody down there in Buffalo or Washington or CIN or TEN or SF or ARI! is going to decide that they have to have that athletic potential. ARI may be even worse of than us, and I'm betting Harbaugh is going to want his guy in SF!

And, we're already missing our third and have multiple needs even if we sign our important FAs!! So, I'm thinking, once again, move back! Collect a late first or a couple of 2nds and then grab a 2nd round combo pack of say: Quinton Carter S OU, Stefen Wisniewski C Penn St, and, perhaps, a Christian Ponder QB, FSU!

A Smart QB (3.7 GPA already has one MBA and working on another!) who is pretty accurate. Lack of deepball concerns me, but sometimes these lil blemishes get overblown by dissection...

And, a big maulin MoFo to put some power back in the middle of our OL!!

    http://www.draftcountdown.com/ScoutingReports/C/Stefen-Wisniewski.php

AND, A Ballin, Hittin Safety to put some fear back into our DBacks!

    BAAAAHWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

    http://www.draftcountdown.com/ScoutingReports/S/Quinton-Carter.php

Man Coverage: Athletic safety who can step up to play outside or in the slot, if needed. Asked to jump out on receivers on corner blitzes, can stay with them down the sideline or on the hot route over the middle. Needs work staying low and over his feet in his backpedal, as well as using his hands to prevent separation and knock receivers off their routes at the line.

Zone Coverage: Has the speed and playmaking ability to be an effective two-deep centerfielder. Closes to the ball in a hurry to make bone-jarring hits, forcing fumbles or incompletions. Owns good hands for the interception whether the ball is thrown at his numbers or in a jump-ball situation. Adjusts well to balls thrown behind him. Noses up against the run and when the quarterback scrambles, leaving his corner on an island if his man heads downfield. Late to get to the sideline at times, even when there is no threat of a run.

After the Senior Bowl today...I stand by my earlier post. Ponder looks the part; we shall see.

Problem is he could shoot up boards ... Some already have him competing with Locker as the No. 4 guy in the draft. He could end up going before pick No. 43 ... And obviously we can't take him at No. 12.

It is going to be very interesting these next few months. It is obvious that we should want a QB, CB and O-lineman. We also have other needs, but these will be very likely draft picks for us. Going to be interesting to see how it pans out.

I would LOVE to see us land Solder at No. 12 and Ponder at No. 43.

Oh ... So being drafted anywhere round 1-5 makes players quality lineman now? Jason Smith has been a disappointment in STL and the other guys a round 3 and round 5 picks. Hardly "building up the line."

The Rams line is pretty dreadful ... But the Bradford pick was still the right one. Hardly proves your point.

It goes back to what I posted earlier about building the line first and then drafting a QB and I stand behind that.

The line might not be fantastic but they are young and building and they did well enough to keep him on the field to complete all 16 games and he did manage over 3500 yds and 18 TD's so there was some decent blocking and Jackson had 1200+ yards rushing.

Compare that to the Vikings OL that was responsible for ending the longest winning streak in the NFL by letting Brett get constantly pounded and then when he took the final blow and was replaced by "The younger, more mobile QB who could take pressure off the line and make plays with his feet", that guy lasted about what, 1.5 quarters before getting knocked out for the season?

Why in the world would you want to draft a franchise QB and subject them to that kind of punishment? Ask Detroit how their franchise QB has helped them while on the shelf for a good chunk of the last 2 seasons.

That would be a good scenario indeed, although it's said Solder may have taken a small step back vs the other Tackles. Also like the Prince at No 12 and Ponder at 43...

I actually would not be surprised if we end up taking earlier than projected. And, I think he will be better sooner and have a better career than Locker.

Lot's of scenarios, the good news is that this is a very deep OL draft. Oh, and you've got to like that kid Kerrigan, DE Purdue. He looks like he's gonna be a good one...

I completely agree. I think he has the poise and commands respect...all of these guys can throw, but, I think Ponder has the intangibles and moxie necessary to succeed at QB in the NFL.
