I didn't realize this, but the current CBA has a clause in it stating that there will be no NFL draft in 2008 if it is not renewed. That means players will basically be free agents out of college!

Yeah but that is still TWO hole drafts away (this years and next years) and if they do not renew by then there will be a STRIKE/LOCKOUT so it does not matter ...
If football is being played ... there will be a draft.
WTF. This is so messed up. Let the vikes get all the FA's and then get that damn deal done!
I'm going out on a limb and saying there will be no draft in 2245. Mark your calendars.
That would be just plain crazy. Large market teams will truly rule. one team could concievably "buy" however many of the top college players that it's willing to pay for.

From the way I read it, it is a stipulation in the current CBA. If it is not renewed, there will be no draft in 2008, just like there is a stipulation that 2007 will be an uncapped year.Quote:

Even if they come to an agreement on a new CBA tomorrow, the timeline to negotiate a new one has expired, so the uncapped 2007 and no draft 2008 are already set in legal stone.
WHAT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey I have an idea,
Let Wilf buy up all the best players at every position and bring us a ton of Championships, this way people could hate the Vikings for a good reason....We always win the big one....
I'de go into the ground a happy man.....LOL
i would not be mind being hated for that reason...nice go get everybody out there wilf

Unless they write an amendment that says that there is going to be a draft in 2008 in the new CBA, or with the new CBA there will be a cap in 2007.Quote:

If there is no new labor agreement by the end of the 2007 season speculation is the players will strike, and the owners will lock them out and that there might not be any football in 2008.
The NFLPA is saying the if the owners lock them out in the 2008 season, they will disband the union and that the anti-trust the NFL has is then voided, the NHL players took the owners to court and tried to void their anti-trust status and they lost, and then the owners put the hammer to the players. They ended up agreeing to a 25% payroll reduction on all players contracts, and to a salary cap.
There will be a lot of law-suits and counter-suits, it could get very nasty
