At the end of the day, I'm sure we'd have the juice to get up there if we wanted to." The Bucs have talked with the Baltimore Ravens at No.13 about trading up, presumably for USC OT Winston Justice. Fri, 28 Apr 2006 20:44:32 -0700

Adam Teicher, of the Kansas City Star, reports the Kansas City Chiefs still have a need at defense. With the team needing to fix many defensive needs, the Chiefs will likely pass on wide receiver early in the NFL Draft. During the past five drafts, the Chiefs have yet to select a wide receiver higher than the third round. Team president and general manager Carl Peterson addressed the situation and talked about WRs Samie Parker and Craphonso Thorpe. He said, "We haven't been able to get that player. To date, that guy hasn't stepped up. I'm cautiously optimistic and excited about Samie Parker. Hopefully, good things are going to happen there. I would say the same thing about Craphonso Thorpe. Until his injury, we had him rated a lot higher than a fourth-round pick. We're going to keep looking. We're going to keep churning the waters."

"He (Bush) is the No. 1 player on our board," Loomis said during a break in staff meetings at the Saints' facility. "He's the No. 1 player on a lot of teams' boards. To be truthful, I don't expect us to be moving the pick." The Saints appear poised to take the most explosive running back to come out of college football in years. Bush would complement incumbent RB Deuce McAllister, who's returning from major knee surgery.

    Fri, 28 Apr 2006 20:16:37 -0700

Kevin Seifert, of the Star-Tribune, reports former Green Bay Packers general manager Ron Wolf says using a committee system doesn't work. He added, "It's nice to think that it works, but it doesn't." Wolf warned that sharing authority between multiple decision-makers can cause hurt feelings, disputes over credit and philosophical differences over football values. The Minnesota Vikings are expected to have at least four men contribute equally to the team's draft strategy. Vikings vice president of player personnel Fran Foley, head coach Brad Childress and vice president of football operations Rob Brzezinski will be on board for each move. Foley has also leaned heavily on director of college scouting Scott Studwell. Foley described the arrangement as, "The Vikings are structured to select players that are agreed upon by a group of people and a consensus of information that is gathered from numerous sources."

Nealy spent a great deal of time during the offseason working on the center to quarterback exchange and his footwork in the pocket.

NCAA | R. Bush could cost USC national championship
    Fri, 28 Apr 2006 19:24:03 -0700

Dan Wetzel, of Yahoo Sports, reports USC RB Reggie Bush could cost Southern California their 2004 Bowl Championship Series national championship due to assertions made by Michael Michaels. BCS officials said if Bush is ruled ineligible by either the Pacific 10 Conference or the NCAA for just one game during the 2004 season, the BCS would discuss amending their rules to allow it to force USC to vacate the national championship. BCS administrator Bill Hancock said, "This is the type of thing the BCS might have to look into if other governing bodies, the conference and the NCAA, take action." Michaels' claims moves Bush's timeline of ineligibility back to USC's 2004 season, where the school went undefeated and won the national championship. Michaels promised he would back up his claims with corroborating evidence.

Brian Bakst, of the Associated Press, reports Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf pressed state senators to keep his plans for a new stadium alive for 2006. The state House passed stadium finance plans for the Minnesota Twins and the University of Minnesota football team, but has not given as much attention to the Vikings' plans for a new stadium in Anoka County. Wilf said, "All I'm saying to you is give the Vikings a fair chance to be heard. Give us the chance to be discussed in conference committee." Team vice president Lester Bagley added, "Splitting the Twins' bill and the Vikings' bill kills the Vikings' bill and kills the Vikings' chances this session." He also said he was frustrated that the governor's office appeared to be working behind the scenes to keep the Twins and Vikings proposals separate.
