The NFC North: A Pre-Draft Mock Season
The NFC North: A Pre-Draft Mock Season
The Vikings have been "one quarterback away from a Super Bowl" for at least two off-seasons. I use parenthesis in that phrase because frankly, it has become cliche.
Yet I stare at the depth charts for hours on end, and can reach no other conclusion but just that.
There are, however, a couple factors that could throw a wrench into the Vikings Super Bowl aspirations even if the quarterback situation is truly resolved.Optimistic Record: 14-2
Pessimistic Record: 8-8

Re: The NFC North: A Pre-Draft Mock Season
Pretty good stuff. I am feeling 11-5 also.
Although he must think the North is taking over this year ... 12-4 Bears, 11-5 Vikings, 10-6 Packers?
He is probably one of those guys that when you look over his picks for a season he has a total of like 60 more wins than losses.

Re: The NFC North: A Pre-Draft Mock Season
Well, I'm gonna go with the 2 game improvement we've been seeing the last couple years.....12-4.
As for the rest of the division:
Bears: 10-6
Packers: 9-7
Lions: 3-13

I think it the Vikes, Bears and Pack will all end up with 10-6 and the Lions will go 6-10. The Bears did something to improve this pff season, we didn't, and the pack played below expectations.
Halo 4. Start another fight.

Re: The NFC North: A Pre-Draft Mock Season
I say Division Champs, with a 11-5 record. It all depends on what the author had to say. He sums up my feelings exactly: Quote: "I can only speculate—well, and pray—that the confidence in Quarterback Land displayed by the coaching staff and management is not born out of naive optimism. The best case scenario—one which I would presume the Vikings anticipate—is a lot of extra cap room and a successful draft in which the quarterback will be aided as much as possible."
This is how we must approach the draft. The first three rounds we must get a OT, a WR, and a CB. Take the best player available on our board in the first, and get the other positions in round 2, and 3.

Gonna be an awesome perfect 2011 season then! After that tho, I suppose they'll have to expand the regular season, or find some way for us to have negative two losses."renovikesfan" wrote:

Re: The NFC North: A Pre-Draft Mock Season
A very interesting read my friend, thanks.....
I have a few comments that might be a bit different than the author:
I like a couple of thier moves this offseason, however, I still think they will try to address a couple of areas with thier top picks (Not counting the first pick in here)
http://www.kffl.com/static/nfl/featu...by+Team&y=2009Pos Player Name FA Status Previous Team Current Team
RB Aveion Cason Re-signed Detroit Lions Detroit Lions
RB Maurice Morris Signed Seattle Seahawks Detroit Lions
WR Bryant Johnson Signed San Francisco 49ers Detroit Lions
TE Will Heller Signed Seattle Seahawks Detroit Lions
PK Jason Hanson Re-signed Detroit Lions Detroit Lions
OG Damion Cook Re-signed Detroit Lions Detroit Lions
OG Dylan Gandy Signed Free Agent Detroit Lions
OG Stephen Peterman Re-signed Detroit Lions Detroit Lions
OT George Foster Re-signed Detroit Lions Detroit Lions
OT Daniel Loper Signed Tennessee Titans Detroit Lions
OL Matt Lentz Signed Tampa Bay Buccaneers Detroit Lions
DL Grady Jackson Signed Atlanta Falcons Detroit Lions
LB Cody Spencer Signed New York Jets Detroit Lions
CB Eric King Signed Tennessee Titans Detroit Lions
The way I read thier defense is that the new HC will want to move away from the old "One Gap" team (Smaller faster lineman) towards a more physical "Bigger Better Faster" approach to fixing thier defensive woes.
I look to see them take one of the "Bigger DT's" possibly Brace with thier second pick and go with a cat like Larry English, Mike Johnson or Brian Orakpo with thier second pick to fix thier DE/Pass Rush issues associated with that scheme choice as White and Avril are "Good" at best.
On the offensive side of the ball, thier interior, especially at the G position will need to be shored up a bit.
With Daunte seemingly looking like a new man, they might opt to go OT with the first and get a QB later, however, I think they will go with Stafford with the first pick even though it appears they haven't made any headway with signing him to a contract yet.
Long story short, if you add the following:
1.
Stafford
20. Johnson
33. Duke Robinson
Couple that with the guys they have added so far, I could see them getting a few more wins that some think.
Truth be told, I honestly see them getting more wins than the Bores do this year.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.
