I WOULD give up a 3rd rounder for him. If we are willing to give up 2 3rd rounders for an unproven rookie, I would give up 1 for Donnie Edwards.

I completely understand about the 3-4 scheme however a person like Donnie Edwards learns fast. He's a hard worker that has excellent leadership skills and you can't knock his production.

    TRADE FOR DONNIE EDWARDS!!!!!!

Maybe Rocky Calmus might be an inexpensive option to look at...he's still pretty young...but he might be a bit small and slow to play the Mike.
I would love if we traded for Donnie Edwards!!!

I wouldn't want Claiborne back.. If we were going to take a shot at Edwards, we would be in the same situation as if we were to go after Boulware, or Sharper.. I really don't see a pressing concern to go after another LB.. We have plenty of competition as it is, and we will have good backups with whoever doesn't get the start..

Henderson, Greenway, and Leber as the starters..

I could see us maybe bringing in one veteran guy for depth that knows he would be a backup and would be quick enough to count on covering people. I don't see us getting anybody that will change our starting lineup from the guys we already have.

We definitely could use a little more depth at the position ... but I dont think we are in that bad of a spot ... at least not yet.

I don't get this. It's good to have some competion for the Mike LB spot. Furthermore I'm sure one of the guys - Napo, EJ og DT - will work out. There is no need to go shopping.

And for those who in a moment are going to mention Donnie Edwards - again - I don't understand why you want to bring in an old guy who has played in a 3-4 system.

    Thats my 5 cent.
Why not bring in an upgrade if possible? Sure its nice to have a competition, but if theres a posssibility that regardless of who wins that competition we will remain weak at the particular position why not bring in someone who can compete at a higher level.
Furthermore, Donnie Edwards WOULD be an upgrade, so if its possible to bring him in, i say why not.
Donnie Edwards would be a good FA pick up. He's not that old (33) and is very solid. We can use that and his leadership. There's nothing wrong with bringing him in.
I agree, but i believe we would have to trade for him, pretty sure he isnt a FA.
Thank you for making my point. I have been reading statements like these over and again in the past weeks.

I understand you guys want him in, but I just don't, for two reasons:

    - He has been a 3-4 backer
    - I don't see him as that big of an upgrade over the guys on the current roster.

I think that either Napo or EJ will surprise someone this year, depending on who ends up with the job.
Napo has been given - rightfully - a lot of critisism for his play last year, but he's a much better play than he showed, or were given the opportunity to show.
EJ's problem the last time he played in the middle - imo - were bad reading of the plays. I believe that will not be the case this time given some more experience under his belt, and the new scheme and coacing staff.
Word. I just don't understand why no one thinks 33 isn't old. 3-4 Defense isn't our gig this year. Let's give the existing guys a chance to succeed in the new scheme before "shopping". We have plenty of time.

When you are 39 years old, 33 doesn't seem to old. Especially if you are someone like Donnie Edwards that stays in top physical shape.
