More rumblings on AP's contract

He would be around or tied for the 3rd highest paid back at 7,000,000 this year

2011 10 to 13 million would put him at or around the highest paid Back in the NFL.


And his last year is voidable so he could hit FA in 2012 or the Vikes could Franchise him and he would get the average which last year was over 9 million.

Adrian quit your whinning and stop your fumbling and you might get a new contract, maybe.

Keep in mind, if the average of the top 5 backs is less than a 10% increase of his previous years salary, he gets whichever is higher. If he's going to make 13 mil in 2011, his 2012 salary would be something like 14-15 mil.

Its funny to me that this report is based on what people have 'heard'. Kind of like an un-named source. While their is probably something to this it seems to me that AP's deal is good and if he produces he will be paid accordingly. We dont need to focus on this the season is almost here, we got to worry about winning not paychecks.

Amen. Until AD skips camp or comes out and says that he is unhappy, I can't accuse him of whining. Does he want a better contract? Probably - he has produced each year in the league, and he is in danger of letting his stock drop because of his fumble issues and other rising star running backs. But he isn't publically bitching and moaning about it - he is handling it behind scenes, and I am OK with that.

Yeah ... this seems more like people trying to make rumblings than there actually being rumblings.

It seems, that he may have some issues with his contract and he and his agent are probably discussing it with the Vikes. That does not make him "grumbling" ... it makes him doing business.

As for his current contract reaching $7 million ... that is IF he hits his incentives. Contracts are not about that to players, players care about guaranteed money. This is the money they know they get whether hurt or not, something that is important in the violent world of the NFL.

Adrian Peterson signed a 6 year, $40.5 million contract in July of 2007. This included only $17 million guaranteed. Next season, he is guaranteed $3.4 million with a $2.8 million roster bonus. 2011 he is guaranteed $7.72 million. Both of those numbers are ONLY because he has kicked in some escalators.

He is trying to take care of his business, that is all. Not whining about it publicly or anything. He has an odd contract, and at this point has a right to explore getting more GUARANTEED money.

These contract discussions always make me laugh. Coming from England where a pro soccer contract literally isn't worth the paper it's printed on.

If a player signs a contract and agrees to X amount over X years with X gauranteed, then why should they be allowed to go back and say I want more or let renegotiate. If they had a break out year and I know Ap did then great he's earned his money and the team got what they payed for, if he bums out like Russel then the player wins and the team loses.

Am I missing something here? He's getting $42 MILLION dollars. Why does he want or need any more than that.

Can the team say "you were pretty crap this year so we are cutting your payment"? If they can then ignore what I've written, otherwise you signed a contract shut up and play the damn game

We should trade him. He's getting old anyway!

Seriously, I agree that his career will likely be shorter than other players due to the position he plays.

If he is looking for more money he is going about it pretty quietly.

So far Peterson has been nothing but a class act.

We'll see if this story has legs or is just off season speculation, due to his missing minicamp.

I do agree with IBP but the fact reamins your career could end after 2 minutes of your first possesion in your first game. A players career can be cut short a la Udeze through mno fault of theri own and I respect a player trying to cater for that. I have always thought AP was not that kind of player iirc he got payed rookie minimum his 1st year and never made an issue of it.

I think the original negotiations should include a career ending injury clasue which gives them a gauranteed amount of money.

Still he has earned millions as have many others, how much money does a player need to not worry about his future?
