Mock My Mock part 1

Here we go...first run through.
What do ya'all think?

MOCK1 2009
1. DET
Jason Smith OT
It all starts up front and DET has neglected OL for years.
2. STL
Eugene Monroe OT
Spagnoulo wants to go D, but Pace pushes them to OT.
3. KC
Aaron Curry LB
He can play LB in 3-4 or 4-3.
Safe pick, first year upgrade
4. SEA
Matt Stafford QB
Matt could use some time with Matt.
Want OL, but better value at QB?
5. CLE
Chris “Beanie” Wells RB
Mangini wants to run, JL is old with little depth.
6. CIN
Mike Oher OT
They need help bad…30th in sacks allowed in 08!
7. OAK
Jeremy Maclin WR
The playmaker with speed
8. JAX
Crabtree
WR
Consistent production at WR…JAX fans go, “What???”
9. GB
Orakpo
OLB
Tough decision, him or Raji, but, at the moment, it looks like they’ve got some meat up front and this is BPA.
10. SF
Peria Jerry LDE/DT
I know, Raji is BPA, but they only got 40 tkls and 3.5 sacks out of LDE last season.
PJ’s lack of room to grow is negated instantly by moving him to a 3-4 LDE.
Singletary had Dent, now Lawson and Hillis get PJ.
11. BUF
Everette Brown DE
26th in sacks and 20th vs. run means they need help up front, and seemingly mostly at DE, (LDE if Schobel is healthy, RDE otherwise)
12. DEN
BJ Raji
DT
I can’t believe I dropped him to 12.
Broncos should be stoked, but seeing what JMc has done so far, he’ll probably go for Knowshon Moreno instead.
13. WAS
Tyson Jackson
LDE
With the Taylor release, they got nothing at LDE, but Andre Smith would be tempting too.
14. NO
Malcolm Jenkins
CB/S
At least a nickel back, possible starter/depth at both.
15. HOU
Mark Sanchez
QB
Do you think they really want Orlovsky behind Injury prone Shaub?
16. SD
Robert Ayers
LDE
The big boys go early, and he’s a player with size to help out front.
Wanted to go WR but wasn’t quite ready to reach for Harvin.
17. NYJ
Knowshon Moreno RB
I know, they’re set at RB, but Harvin reminds me of Leon, so the value isn’t quite there at WR and, on paper, their defense looks set.
They were said to have high interest in McFadden last season…
18. CHI
Eben Britton OT
This guy can play either side while they figure out where they want last year’s top pick, C. Williams.
19. TB
Vontae Davis
CB
The best DTs are gone and Freeman is a reach.
BPA gives them youth behind Ronde and an upgrade at nickel.
20. DET
Rey Maualuga MLB
Instant upgrade to MLB and run defense!!
21. PHI
Andre Smith OT
Too much talent to drop any further.
22. VIKES!!
Hmmm...Harvin, Nicks, or Britt...Take Your Pick!!!
23. NE
Aaron Maybin OLB
He edges out Laurinaitis barely because of his speed, and gives Belicheck another dangerous weapon on defense.
24. ATL
Brian Cushing OLB They are short a CB and at least one LB.
Cushing is BPA meets need.
25. MIA
Hakeem Nicks WR
Tough, consistent, reliable target for Pennington.
26. BAL
Darius H-B WR
The local kid gives the Ravens a real threat at WR.
27. IND
Evander “Zyggi” Hood DT
Yup.
Even the third best DT is a major upgrade.
They still can’t stop the run unless Sanders does all the tackling.
28. PHI
Donald Brown RB
A Westbrook clone to backup and/or replace as injury dictates.
29. NYG
Kenny Britt
WR
Tough blocking and possession WR to take the place of
I-nearly-shot-my-dick-off.
30. TEN
Ron Brace DT
He’s not Haynesworth but he’s got the size to stop the run.
31. ARI
Brandon Pettigrew TE
They had zero TDs at TE last season.
Good all around player who will help their running game too.
32. PIT
Alphonso Smith CB
I was going to give them Mack or Unger, since they could use help all over the OL, but the thing is, the Steelers don’t draft OL in the first round.
Smith might make their cover D even better.

Top of the Board...Near Misses???
Max Unger
Laurinaitis ILB
Alex Mack
Mike Johnson DE
Josh Freeman QB
William Beatty OT
Control the line, control the time, and give your D a chance to shine!!

Re: Mock My Mock part 1

Very interesting.
Couple of comments.

a.
First draft I've seen where Jerry goes above Raji.
b.
No way Freeman doesn't go in the first.
Have you been monitoring all the workouts he's been getting?
c.
Andre Smith has been slipping but I don't think he will drop that far.

Again, a very insteresting mock.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

Re: Mock My Mock part 1

Well, I am trying to, "think outside the box," a bit.
Seemed like a solid idea to me...Peria Jerry is a hell of a player, but the concern is with his size and how it would hold up at DT in the NFL.
A 3-4 DE needs to be part DT anyway (at least one of them) and the 49ers got 40+ tackles each out of two of their NTs, but barely 40 total out of all of their LDEs combined.

That is my mock folly...having teams pick players that I think will do them the most good, or that they'll get the most immediate impact out of...instead of who is next on Kiper's Big Board...which, obviously, isn't always how it goes.
I think that teams often draft to mask their coaches' weaknesses, rather than their teams.

Yeah, I've debating on Smith to the Bears instead...I just felt they'd go with a safer player, but Reid likes his big boys...

I'm really not sold on any of this year's first round QBs.
Seems to me all the good ones stayed in school this year.
But, people think Freeman is this year's Flacco, don't they?

Re: Mock My Mock part 1

I'm sorry but your outta your mind if you think Beanie goes in the top 5... esp with all of the rb's lately that come in and make an impact right out of college...

I do like how you think outside the box, however, i have a few comments..

1. I have not seen Jerry go before Orakpo, so i think you are good to go there..
2. I think if Seattle does take a QB, they take Sanchez.
Stafford is over rated and Sanchez fits the WCO better than stafford does... plus he's a west coast guy..
3. I think that's a little early for Oher.
If cincy goes with an OT, it'd be Smith before Oher.
4. Cleveland will go defense in the 1st round.
5. Raji slips that far?.. i doubt it, he's better than Jerry and Brown.
I doubt he slips that far.
6. I think Houston shored up that pick with Orlavsky, he did a decent job last year, i think they are set there doubt they take sanchez that early.
Maybe a QB in later rounds, they have other needs to address than QB.
7. Chicago took a tackle in the first round last year, doubt they do it again, look for a receiver or DE there.
8. I agree with Marr, freeman goes in the first... and i also think Stafford has a chance to slip to the jets...

MOCK1 2009
1. DET

Jason Smith OT
It all starts up front and DET has neglected OL for years.

IMHO, Eugene Monroe is the most NFL ready and qualified OT, so, I agree that Detroit will NOT pick him.

2. STL

Eugene Monroe OT
Spagnoulo wants to go D, but Pace pushes them to OT.
3. KC

Aaron Curry LB
He can play LB in 3-4 or 4-3.
Safe pick, first year upgrade

In 2005, I was raving about Derrick Johnson; could this kid be even better?

4. SEA

Matt Stafford QB
Matt could use some time with Matt.
Want OL, but better value at QB?

Excellent thought process on your part and for Stafford's sake I hope you are correct.

5. CLE
Chris “Beanie” Wells RB
Mangini wants to run, JL is old with little depth.

Vernon Gholston.

I would be completely surprised if Mangini took another OSU player so soon. A WR is the only possibility I can see that would prevent some talent influx for the Browns D.

.
.
.

I like your 'out the box' idea and agree that PJ would make a great DE in a 3-4. I am rooting for Samurai Mike and will be curious to see what he does.
.
.
.

15. HOU
Mark Sanchez
QB
Do you think they really want Orlovsky behind Injury prone Shaub?

Kudos on the idea and similar to the Seattle situation, The Texans would be wise to groom another QB.
.
.
.

17. NYJ
Knowshon Moreno RB
I know, they’re set at RB, but Harvin reminds me of Leon, so the value isn’t quite there at WR and, on paper, their defense looks set.
They were said to have high interest in McFadden last season…

I had heard Thomas Jones might be injured, so, it would be wise to grab a solid RB to chew some clock.
I just wonder if Ryan will be looking for some defensive talent or try to prove Mar correct by selecting Freeman thinking he has the next Joe Flacco, which he might be, and time will tell if that's a good thing.

18. CHI
Eben Britton OT
This guy can play either side while they figure out where they want last year’s top pick, C. Williams.

I wonder if it is possible for da Bears to make a move this wise. Last year, they selected a first round OT KNOWING he had back issues.

.
.
.

21. PHI
Andre Smith OT
Too much talent to drop any further.

He has the additional value of already being molded in the image of Andy Reid.
8)

Hooray for BOOBIES!
;D

22. VIKES!!
Hmmm...Harvin, Nicks, or Britt...Take Your Pick!!!

You seem to have chosen Harvin, but, I would say Nicks due to his ability to contribute more for A'AD'P blocking and a more viable Red-Zone threat.

25. MIA
Hakeem Nicks WR
Tough, consistent, reliable target for Pennington.
...
29. NYG
Kenny Britt
WR
...

Great Post! Thanks!

Re: Mock My Mock part 1

Thanks for all the comments!
I don't mean to come off defensive...but, its in my nature and I'm kind of a smart donkey.
Obviously, this is guesswork at best, and there will most likely be some hard to predict trades etc.

I'd be stoked with any of those three WRs, or even trading back some...depends I guess, on who they think fits the need the best.
Is it the big tough blocking Britt?
The all around reliable Nicks?
Or the most explosive playmaker, Harvin?
I guess, I'm liking the Peterson similarities...top notch talented playmaker with duribility/injury questions drops right to us.
The tape has me convinced that PH is a go for broke on every play type of player who would really make opponents double think how hard and how often they want to stack the box for AP.

Cutler and Boldin could be big trade contributions...DET's No.20 and a conditional next year for JC?
Makes a ton of sense if they go OT with the first.
If I was in their shoes though, I'd want somebody solid on both sides to start the rebuilding around.
Maybe, that makes Curry an option again.

Could see a team with multiple needs trade up...ATL could really use a LB and a CB in round 1.

I've seen suggestions that the Eagles might want to move up for a better OT.
But, seems more their style to take 2 later.

Any other first round trade ideas/possibilities/rumors?

Re: Mock My Mock part 1

Chris "Beanie" Wells might be dashing back up the draft boards, with Marcus Freeman close on his heels...

Representatives from 29 of 32 NFL teams were present, a school spokesman said, numbering about 60 people in all.

Wells likely erased worries about his speed. After posting a 4.59-second time in the 40-yard dash at the scouting combine in February, he slipped in some mock drafts, from mid-first round to late in the round or even out of it.

But yesterday, he blazed to times in the 4.39 to 4.42 range -- one team had him at 4.34. That's impressive for a 235-pound bruiser.

Dang!
Now thats a mother truckin load!!

Here's my look on CLE.
They were 2nd last in total offense a year after lighting up the league.
Most of the players are still there.
26th rushing and 31 passing.
Jamal Lewis was 20th in the league with just over 1000 yds rushing...although he was 11th in attempts/game, he was way down at 93rd with a mere 3.6 average.

Players with Wells' combination of size, speed, vision, burst, and power are very rare.
Sure, you could get a Matt Forte in the 2nd, or a Cedric Benson (bust) in the first, but you probably won't see a 230+ lb back with close to 4.3 speed in the 2nd unless he's already injured...did I mention, 25 reps on the bench and the best broad jump of all RBs with 10'8" too?

This guy could use a half a year of learning and splitting carries with Lewis before taking over as a featured back...but would be an immediate, huge depth upgrade, that would help ease the learning curves of their questionable QBs.
Likely, it makes JL better too, easing his workload, much like AP did for Chester Taylor.
And, he's an Ohio guy, and, a ticket seller!!

Better yet, according to my Mockery, they could still possibly land Laurinaitis at MLB with the 4th pick of the 2nd round, and improve their defense too!

Can I say, "BOOOOYAAAAAA" yet?
;D
