    The Minnesota Vikings Select....

I figured we've gotten too close to the draft and its time you have a little fun with it. All you have to do is predict who the Vikings will draft with the 12th overall selection and a little reasoning behind it if you like. So go take a shot and tell us who you think the Vikings take with the 12th selection. Simple right?

    No guess from you?

With the 12th pick the Minnesota Vikings select Julio Jones.

I think that he will fall to us and that Gabbert and Newton will be gone. Frazier/Spielman said they will look at WR if one of the top ones falls to us and Julio Jones is #2 on everyones WR board. It's uncertain if Rice will return and getting a talent like Jones will be a big boost to our soon to be depleted WR corp.
I am NOT here to provide good football insight or rational observations. I am an emotional 19 year old Viking fan and I expect you to adjust your expectations from my posts.

    Re: The Minnesota Vikings Select....

I will wait for draftday, i will release my final mock draft and ofcourse in there will be the Vikings pick.

Here is my thoughts right now.

Right now i think that we are locked on the quarterback, i think they actually could bring Edwards back and defensive end shouldnt be a priority along with the re-signing of Robison.

Robert Quinn is a big talent, big likely to small to play LDE.. Bowers has problems with his knee..

I like Aldon Smith, but not at 12..

Im thinking Mallett is a very likely choice at 12..

Newton and Gabbert will likely be gone.. So will both of the 2 top wideouts and both top DT's as well..

Patrick Peterson is gone and Prince Amukarama i don't see falling past the Texans just before us, i also think that he is a better fit in more man coverage type of defence.

Greenway will be looking at the long term agreement once this is all set and done and Leber still got a few years in him..

With that said our priorities is safety and quarterback and there are no safeties in this years draft worth taking at 12.

From what im hearing Jake Locker isnt high on many boards. Mallett it seems is getting a late push up many draft boards.. It also seemed that some team planted the Panthers story to get him to fall..

But as i said i havent set my mockdraft yet, so im not really sure yet..

True to form for the Vikings we will draft a DL or LB with the 12 and draft a developmental QB after the 4th round and then bring in an aging vet or 2 to hold us over while that guy develops.

    Re: The Minnesota Vikings Select....

What the hell fun is just picking the 12th?

1rst Jake Locker, QB (Ranked 32nd - Reach)
CDS Projects as a 1rst round pick and Has him ranked as 4th best QB behind Gabber, Newton and Mallet. Based on visits, it appears to me that Miami and Seattle will take Locker with their first round picks.

Who is still on the board:
    Tyron Smith, OT
    Akeem Ayers, OLB
    Andrew Dalton, QB
    Ryan Kerrigan, DE/OLB
    J.J. Watt, DE
    Cam Jordan, DE
    Gabe Carimi, OT
    Aldon Smith, DE/OLB
    Nate Solder, OT
    Anthony Castonzo, OT
    Mike Pouncey, C/OG

2nd Marvin Austin, DT (Ranked 68th)
CDS Projects as a 1rst round pick and has him ranked 3rd behind Dareus and Fairley. Would rather have taken Paea Liguit or Taylor but they are all gone.

Who is still on the board:
    Jimmy Smith, CB
    Titus Young, WR
    Marcus Gilbert, OG/OT
    Jonathan Baldwin, WR
    Aaron Williams, CB
    Davon House, CB
    Quan Sturdivant, ILB
    Rahim Moore, FS
    Kelvin Sheppard, SILB
    Curtis Brown, CB
    Brandon Burton, CB
    Jabaal Sheard, OLB
    Mikel LeShoure, RB

4th Terrence Toliver, WR (Ranked 127th)
CDS has him rated with 2nd round talent, but projects him as a late 3rd early 4th because of attitude issues.

Who is still on the board:
    Christopher O'Dowd, C
    Kentrell Lockett, OLB
    John Moffitt, C
    Jerrel Powe, DT
    Luke Stocker, TE
    Clint Boling, OG/RT
    DeMarcus Love, OG/RT
    Edmond Gates, WR
    James Brewer, RT/LT
    Shareece Wright, CB

5th Nate Irving, OLB (Ranked 117th)
CDS has him as the 10th best OLB and projects him as a 3rd round pick. Injury issues remaining from a car accident limited his play which causes him to slide a bit in the draft.

Who is still on the board:
    Josh Bynes, MLB
    Tom Keiser, OLB/DE
    Quinton Carter, SS
    Jermale Hines, SS
    Ian Williams, NT/DT
    Julias Thomas, TE
    Andrew Jackson, OG
    Jacquizz Rodgers, RB

    5th Jalil Brown, FS/CB (Ranked 138th)
CDS has him as the 14th best CB and projects him as 4th talent. Other boards project him as a FS. He slips cause he is a tweener. I picked him because he can play both and depending on what they do with Hussain, and injury issues at CB, I thought he was a good value pick.

Who is still on the board:
    Curt Porter, RT/LT
    Shane Vereen, RB
    Tyrod Taylor, QB
    Jerrard Terrant, SS
    Cliff Matthews, OLB/DE
    Ronald Johnson, WR
    Will Rackley, OG
    Kendrick Ellis, DT
    Dom DeCicco, SS
    Ross Homan, OLB

6th Virgil Green, TE (Ranked 82nd - Good Value)
Value pick here as I don't think TE is a real issue this year. Just wasn't anything of value at this pick that I would consider taking. In short, this should be considered the BPA. CDS has him as the 4th best TE and projects him to go in the 5th round but could go as early as the 4th if teams think he can add the bulk to become an effective blocker as well as a reciever.

Who is still on the board:
    Curtis March, CB
    Chris Culliver, FS
    Cedric Thornton, DE
    Ronald Johnson, WR
    Buster Skrine, CB
    Mark Legree, FS
    Dwayne Harris, WR
    Bilal Powell, RB
    Mike McNeill, TE

6th Owen Marecic, FB (Ranked 95th - Another Value pick)
CDS has him as the 3rd best FB on the board. Again, as with TE, I don't see this as a big need this year but this guy is exactly what the team needs when it comes to the FB position. Old School, no neck, knee bender who will work his ass off in the blocking game but won't be, much to most on here's chagrin, considered a offensive threat. For me, I still don't think the Vikes us the FB in that mode anyways.

Who is still on the board:
    Shane Vareen, RB
    Chykie Brown, CB
    Martin Parker, DT
    Anthony Gray, DT
    Alex Wujciak, SILB
    Robert Sands, FS
    Mike Mohamed, ILB

7th Tejay Johnson, FS (Ranked 224th)
CDS didn't have this guy in their database so I went to fftoolbox (second url) for the scouting report. Again, another tweener that slips, not because of talent but because of numbers as a result of the team around him. I picked him because, like Brown, I thought he filled two roles and quite frankly, there wasn't much left to choose from on the big board other than a few Kickers. I almost plugged one in here by the way.

Who is still on the board:
    Will Hill, CB
    Brandon Bair, DE
    Kendric Burney, CB
    D. Johnson-Koulianos, WR
    Shane Draughn, RB
    Carl Johnson, OG
    Ryan Bartholomew, C

7th Doug Hogue, OLB (Ranked 199th)
CDS has him as the 15th best OLB and projects him as a 6th round pick. I picked him for two reasons, 1) we might need LB'rs if they can't resign Erin Henderson and 2) the kid has a lot of upside. Should provide instant help on ST's and could develop into a very good OLB in a couple of years.

Who is still on the board:
    Randall Cobb, WR
    Joe Lefeged, SS
    Aldrick Robinson, WR
    Cameron Graham, TE
    Karl, Klug, DE
    Roy Helu, RB
    Charlie Bryant, DE

I will wait for draftday, i will release my final mock draft and ofcourse in there will be the Vikings pick.
As with you, I will probably put out a finally 2 round mock the day before. So hard to figure it all out without any free agency.

One of the ones I've worked up (picks above us) that might happen....

    1. Carolina Cam Newton, QB
    2. Denver Marcel Dareus, DT
    3. Buffalo Von Miller, OLB/DE
    4. Cincinnati Baine Gabbert, QB
    5. Arizona Patrick Peterson, CB
    6. Cleveland A.J. Green, WR
    7. San Francisco Prince Amukamara, CB
    8. Tennessee Nick Fairley, DT
    9. Dallas Robert Quin, DE
    10. Washington Ryan Mallet, QB
    11. Houston Akeem Ayers, OLB

At 12, I still like Locker here based on who is left.

I am 100% convinced if we don't see them take a QB at 12, we are going to be in the Kolb sweepstakes.

Something that can work for us in that regard, if there is no CBA, we can basically trade for Kolb with next years draft picks, that might not be worth much of anything, allowing us to use all of our draft picks this year to add depth/starters were needed.

Randall Cobb has been mentioned in the first round and you have him on the board in the 7th?

I didn't know were to put him. CDS has him as the 5th best WR, the big board had him 156th best player.

One ranks him high cause he can run the wildcat, one ranks him low cause he small and slow.

Again, I'm no scout and don't follow the collegiate game. Gotta go with what these things say in most cases there isn't much difference between them.

Agree, this is the only scenario were I actually see someone sliding to us that might garner a trade.

With Ayers off the board, they might just do it.
