Mario Williams to Texans #1 a DONE DEAL !!!

    POSTED 6:22 p.m. EDT, April 28, 2006

MARIO TO HOUSTON A "DONE DEAL"

A league source tells us that the Houston Texans have informed Joel Segal, the agent for Reggie Bush, that the team has a "done deal" with defensive end Mario Williams.

    More details to come.

Wouldn't surprise me at all. I think there are going to be alot of surprises tommorrow as nothing happened last year during the draft ... major trades, etc..

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    MARIO IS A TEXAN

    Wow. What a week.

In the five days since Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports and Jason Cole of the Miami Herald put a name to the rumor that we floated on April 15 regarding a first-round prospect and a house owned by a member of an Indian tribe, Reggie Bush has gone from being the clear-cut No. 1 overall pick in the draft to, at best, No. 2.

Instead, the No. 1 overall pick is defensive end Mario Williams, a defensive end from a basketball school that suddenly can't find a basketball coach.

And although it's still not clear whether the events of the past 120 hours contributed to the Texans' decision to pass on Bush, something prompted the team to embrace the guy who originally was nothing more than a source of leverage for Bush's contract.

In the end, it could be that Bush's financial demands killed the deal. But even if the snowballing story that started with a San Diego house and grew into a crossfire of claims of extortion and fraud had no impact on the thinking of Houston owner Bob McNair, it's very possible that agent Joel Segal felt compelled to play hardball in order to avoid subsequent whispers from rival agents that he went light at the bargaining table in order to get a deal done.

We've heard that it was indeed McNair who personally authorized the efforts to sign Williams, even as the football guys in the organization continued to press for Bush.

Bottom line -- Bush will be No. 2 at best, and given the difference in pay from the first spot to the second, it looks like karma has found a way to ensure that the Bush family paid the rent.

    And then some.

Until more confirmation I am not sold that this will be real, if could be rumor for trying to get Bush come down on his salary and bonus.
What we've got here is failure to communicate.

The Texans would be stupid not to pick Reggie at #1, this is strictly for leverage purposes.

On ESPN an hour ago Mortenson stated that the Texans have been negotiating with Mario for the last 24hrs and havn't spoken with Reggie for the last 48hrs, when previously they were discussing contract particulars.

Now confirmed on NFL Network by Adam Shefter as he spoke with Mr. McNair with the Texans.

I would give the Texans a standing ovation if they had the balls to do that and pass on the "legendary" Reggie Bush.
Minnesota Vikings : Simply the best

NOt always though... While they eventually got it right, they claimed that Favre told the Packers over a month earlier that he was coming back. He and the team both denied that to be true.

On this situation.... I can't see why they would just trade down cheap and take d'brick... they need him a hell of a lot more. May still be true, carzy, but true.

    Thanks Lotza!

Re: Mario to Texans #1 a DONE DEAL ?!?

I have been wondering about this the whole time. I just couldn't see them drafting a RB when they have Double D at RB, just like it doesn't make sense for the Packers to select a QB at No 5. Double D is not Reggie Bush, but he is proven even behind crappy O lines. If they are not taking Bush, then they should move down and take D-Brick.

    We will see tomorrow!

I heard that the Saints want Bush at No 2 and if he is gone to the Texans, they want to move down and let a team like the Pack move up and take Mario Williams. Apparently, Hawk is the Pack's second choice not their first. Once again, we will see how this plays out?????
