Let's shock the NFL and not draft a DE !

I am kind of hoping that the Vikings stir things up on Saturday and not do what *everyone* is predicting, which is to draft a defensive end in the first round. The past several years, we have done this, and where has it gotten us ?

And yes, we do need a pass rusher. But drafting a DE does not automatically guarantee we get that (as Erasmus James has shown).

I say we shake things up and draft a QB high, or even a tight end. Let's not do what everyone expects. Let's be creative on Saturday and stir things up !!

A good QB or tight end can add that missing piece to this team better than "yet another" defensive end can, who will again not live up to promises.

Erasmus James hasn't shown or not shown anything.
He's show in his rookie year, he COULD be a decent pass rusher, but he's also shows he's got the injury bug and can't stay on the field.
He's really never had a fair chance to show what he has to bring to our defense, but sooner rather than later, he'll run out of time.

I say that the Vikings should shock the world and trade up to get five or six higher picks and then make those picks all BPA, all value picks...and all high enough quality to make the team and contribute immediately.
Now THAT would shock the world...and make me a very happy Vikings fan!!!

Let's really shock them and draft a kicker

If we get Allen we very well may pass on a DE in the draft this year.

So what you're saying is we should not address our needs but rather we draft someone off the cuff just to stir up the draft?

Exactly what does that gain us?

Pretzel logic in the first round is not very sound thinking. If you can't get the player you've targeted, you've still have to get the BPA, with that first pick. I'm confident our FO has plans for every scenario that could present itself. Alot of things hinge on this J. Allen deal, as we may not even have a first round pick.

When I read this the first time I assumed you were trying to add a bit a levity to the mix, however, after closer scrutiny I see you have no smileys so you must be serious.

    Draft picks are important.
To sit there and pupose taking a TE or any other player in the first round that isn't projected to go there would be crazy thinking.

Remember, players are projected to go in certain places and there isn't any TE or QB for that matter projected as a value pick at 17 (unless Ryan slips to 17).

I am sure that Spielman and company have a very good draft board sitting in front of them that will ensure we get the right guys to fit the coaches needs and without a bunch of suprises.

The last time we caused a stir in the first round draft, we landed Kevin Williams.
