Re: KR Maurice Hicks planning Visit with Vikings

Finally important and relevant news today

This is a good signing it eliminates drafting a RB allowing us to look elsewhere and he is a good special teams player just what you want from a #3 RB.

Forgive me if I missed this by a mile as usual but I didn't see it posted.

Sorry,I didn't see the other thread!
now we know who probably suggested we go after him

Spent 2003 and 2004 seasons with Scottish Claymores of NFL Europe, working with then Claymores head strength coach Martin Streight (who is now with the Vikings) with the Claymores in 2003.
I really hope he turns out well.
If he's our 3rd RB & return specialist, it will be interesting to see if Childress & Ferraro use him in special teams coverage as well.
Like it says he's a sound tackler, which is a great compliment to Frampton & Farwell

Re: KR Maurice Hicks planning Visit with Vikings

I'm pretty happy with this signing.
Interested to see the contract length and money value, but I expect it's pretty small (especially compared to the guys we signed over the weekend).

So this pretty much fills our #3 RB spot, adds a good player to the coverage teams, and gives us a kick returner.
But I noticed that he has never been a punt returner.
Aundrae Allison is often mentioned as a potential return man, but he also did not take on any punt return duties last year as far as I can tell/remember.

So who is our punt returner?
Do we make Allison or Hicks pick it up?
Or does Wade do it now that we have Berrian and Rice as our outside guys?
    Somebody else I'm forgetting about?
When the age of the Vikings came to a close, they must have sensed it. Probably, they gathered together one evening, slapped each other on the back and said, "Hey, good job." - Jack Handey [Deep Thoughts]

Holds Division I and II single-game rushing record with 437 yards on the ground against Morgan State.
Wow. I don't care who you are playing, 437 yards in a game is ridiculous.

unless we picked up another young WR that played well (doubtful) it was be one of the guys your mentioned, Allison, Hicks, or Wade.

Another move which suggests we are going after DE and QB early in the draft. Woohoo!

Not necessarily, we've actively pursued both positions in the FA, the draft is still up in the air imo

We wouldn't be going RB early in the draft so I don't see what you mean.

We pursued them, but made FB, S, and WR our priorities. How many DEs actually visited? How many QBs? Zero. In contrast, one FB, one S, and one WR visited, and we nailed all of them. The sense of urgency was high, but we progressed through FA with a plan.

WR was definatly the first priority since Wilf flew out to California to get him.
And of course they had a guy in mind at least for safety since they threw out Dwight.
But you honestly don't think we didn't do what we could to get Smith to come here for DE?
They wanted him, thats a fact, its not that FB or anything else was a greater priority, its that SF brought him out there first and threw $20 million guaranteed at him... can't really fight that lol.

    How many QB's visited?
How many of the QB's that have been rumored we were interested in were free agents?
Most of the QBs that people have said the Vikings have been interested in, are only going to be aquired via trade, which we tried to do.

Its not that QB & DE were less of a priority, its that we didn't have as much luck.
