Kevin Shaffer (Possible answer at RT?)

Lookin at his numbers he committed just one penalty (false start) for 5 yards and allowed 4.5 sacks in 15 games last season.

Compare that to Ryan Cook, who committed 8 penalties for 50 yards and allowed 6.0 sacks in 14 starts last season.

Maybe he isn't a long term solution at right tackle, but it appears he might at least be a upgrade.

At least he is a better option than broke dick Tauscher.
Take alook at Tauschers numbers in 2007 when he played a full season.
Strangley similiar to young Cook with even less experience....... ;D

Re: Kevin Shaffer (Possible answer at RT?)

I'm glad that you posted this, Marrdro!
I didn't even know that Kevin Shaffer became a free agent this year. The Vikings should definitely consider this guy! I don't know a whole lot about him, but I know a little, and I think he is a clear upgrade at the right tackle position.
Him and young Joe Thomas formed a great tackle tandem in Cleveland, and although Joe Thomas is the better half of the tandem, Shaffer did a pretty good job too. Unlike his former team mate, Shaffer was not drafted in the first round, instead he was drafted in the last.
However, he has shown that he definitely belongs in the NFL.
He is very durable and has barely missed a game. He had his 29th birthday this month which means that he still has plenty of years left in him.
I would definitely recommend that the Vikings sign this guy for a long term contract.

Like Marrdro, I also think that he's a better option than Mark Tauscher, not that he is better (cause he is not) but because he is way more reliable than Tauscher. Tauscher has had too many injuries.

I like that scenario much better than Tauscher, who IMO is no different than having Cook.

now when you say 2007, would that be the year they lost their whole interior line and had 3 rookies starting?
    Seems awfully familiar.
If that were Cook in Tauschers shoes, you'd be defending him.

Looks like Marrdro is finally admitting that Cook isn't the answer at RT.

Didn't he always? He always says Cook was thrown to the wolves and he can't blame him for his sloppy play or getting beat by edge rushers

Im in the same boat.. He is growing but if we can find a replacement for now im all for that

Funny how a select few on here, no matter how many times I say it, seem to miss that my friend..... ;D

Besides, I am not sure, the News Hound must be getting a bit punchy from all the articles he's posted.
He thinks I wrote the article or something, instead all I did was post an article someone else wrote......

Not sure how that equates to me saying anything...... : ;D

That was also the year that Lord Dickhead had a pretty good season when he was forced into playing within Mac's scheme.

Case you forget, that was a quick throw kindof scheme.
Pretty hard to have terrible numbers in a scheme like that, yet, Tauscher did...... ;D

    As to defending Cook.
I don't defend him, I only point out the obvious. He wasn't a RT when he got here.
He was thrown to the wolves (ala TJ, Griff, Rice, etc) and were asked to perform as if they were NFL starters for years all the while learning on the field in front of our eyes.

Not sure about you, however, I kindof respect them for it, instead of standing back and continually pointing out thier flaws as to think that there wouldn't be any flaws to see in a scenario like that. :

LOL Marr! Are you not the one that titled the thread "Kevin Shaffer (Possible answer at RT?)"

I don't see any link to an article. All you posted were stat links. With that said, how could I interpret it any other way?
