Kerney to void contract & become an UFA
Report: Kerney to void contract
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports Altanta Falcons defensive end Patrick Kerney is expected to void his contract on Friday, thus making him an unrestricted free agent. Kerney is expected to be the top free agent defensive end on the market.
Kerney is an 8 year veteran who has played his entire career with the Atlanta Falcons. He was the Falcons’ first round pick out of Virginia in the 1999 NFL draft. He has 58 career sacks and was voted to the Pro Bowl in 2004

There are a couple good DE's in FA this year...we should go after 1, instead of drafting again. You got Mike Rucker and Kerney, two pretty good pass rushers.

He had a couple of pretty good years (Sacks) in 2001/2002

Statistically Atlantas Def was pretty much like ours last year. First against the run but last against the pass.
I can remember him when he played for VA. He was pretty highly ranked.
Might be a good fit.

He might not be as cheap as we think though if they don't franchise him.

Adam Schefter, of the NFL Network, reports Atlanta Falcons DE Patrick Kerney will wait until Feb. 23 to void the final two years of his contract. By waiting until then, Kerney will pass the deadline for teams to use the franchise tag or transition tag on upcoming free agents. No player under contract can be tagged, making sure he will be a free agent this offseason.
Looks like they won't be able to tag him.

Re: Kerney to void contract & become an UFA
I'd be happy to pick up a defensive end in free agency. We need some depth there, especially with Udeze and James as injury prone as they are. Picking up a guy like Kerney would be a HUGE boost!

yeah i agree, like undisputedvike said, there are a couple food DE's in FA, i hope we can solidify that position there instead of the draft, we could use our draft picks to get our offense back on tract. and also mitchel and edwards aren't looking to bad, they should be able to contribute more this year.I'd be happy to pick up a defensive end in free agency.
