Re: Johnson hire could open the door for Vince Young

New Vikings quarterbacks coach makes his interest in Vince Young clear

Posted by Mike Florio on January 21, 2011, 2:33 PM EST

I know that question is going to be coming, Craig Johnson told Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean. So my answer is going to be this: I do have a relationship with Vince, a long relationship with him. But the head coach and ownership and the offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings theyre the ones that are going to make the decision. The assistant coaches coach.

Staying put where? In the unemployment line? Young is not a Titan.

Besides, ESPN radio has been saying that there was support from within the locker room, by teammates, in favor of Young being tossed out.

@AdamSchefter:Parting ways with Jeff Fisher does not change the Vince Young situation. Team still plans to trade or release Vince Young.

Sorry Rick! Keep up the good work.

    Link?

I cannot find any info on his being released at this time. The only thing I have seen is that they still intend on releasing him but that may change as the Fisher departure unravels.

Maybe they will hire Chilly and he can keep Young and bring in ol' stick a fork in him to compete for the starting role.

There was also support for Young and against Fisher in the locker

    Bo Scaife

The tight end played at the University of Texas with quarterback Vince Young, and he told a reporter he thought the locker room might be divided between supporting Young and coach Jeff Fisher last week. Then the Titans benched him for last week's game with Houston.
Teammates have mixed feelings about Young's exit

Defensive tackle Sen'Derrick Marks was disappointed to see a friend go....Marks suspected that other teammates who chose not to speak out Wednesday night felt the same way about Young's departure.
There is also Bud Adams support for Young, but in the end his love of money and how much he'll save will cause him to get rid of Young.

Young is still under contract with the Titans, he is not a free agent and they need to cut or trade him..

With that said, it seems that Bud Adams is not on the VY bandwagon and he will likely still end up elsewhere.. even with Fisher gone..

getting young would not be a good thing. he's just t-jack with depression. yeah he has some athletic ability but the vikes need to solidify the QB position, not experiment with it.

    TJ > VY
I couldn't disagree more with that statement. Granted, VY is a bit of a headcase but I believe he is still an upgrade from Tarvaris and has proven to have a lot more potential in the NFL than ours truly. It doesn't hurt to take a risk VY because his upside completely outweighs his downside. I consider him a bit of a Michael Vick type risk. He could blow up and be really good or he could decide he doesn't care to be remembered as a great QB and fall off the map. Either way its worth a shot, he is better than anything we have on the roster now and would at least help create some competition! I don't see much downside to acquiring his services!
