Joe Webb: Quietly and Confidently Preparing
Joe Webb
Due to the lockout, Webb is unable to obtain Bill Musgrave's playbook. Instead, he spends his days in Birmingham, throwing to Atlanta Falcons' star Roddy White, the NFL's leading receiver in 2010, and visualizing himself as the Minnesota starter again.
I am so happy to hear this. Especially the part about White, who spent a couple years getting to know Musgrave so he undoubtedly knows some of his verbiage and tendencies. Glad to hear Webb is doing something. Wish he would get Percy and Rice down there though.I am NOT here to provide good football insight or rational observations. I am an emotional 19 year old Viking fan and I expect you to adjust your expectations from my posts.

Re: Joe Webb: Quietly and Confidently Preparing
I like the kid. Good to see he's working, and, like you said, maybe he can pick up a lil head start on Musgrave's system from White.
I think the poll at the bottom was missing an option tho:
5. Sign a vet, draft a QB, AND let Joe compete with both for the starting gig!!
Control the line, control the time, and give your D a chance to shine!!

Personally I would be very surprised if playbooks are not accidentally left in locations where players might just happen to stumble across them. It is not exactly the most cloak and dagger thing to be going on right now.

Re: Joe Webb: Quietly and Confidently Preparing
I remember someone on NFLN saying that even if the lockout extends, a rookie QB will get a playbook. Even if teams need to go to the kids high school and leave it with the coach there.
So I really can't imagine Joe didn't get anything from Bill. Unless of course Bill doesn't have anything for him yet. Maybe he's still looking at film of our team, deciding what plays we can leave in and what ones we can't.

Re: Joe Webb: Quietly and Confidently Preparing
I remember when we heard the same kindof stuff about how hard TJ was working to get better in the offseason and that was with the coaches help.
Love to hear that Joe is doing the same, but in the end, if he isn't getting stuff from the coaches he is just wasting his time IMHO. Don't get me wrong, anything he does to help stay in shape and work timing is a good thing, just isn't gonna help when it comes to the playbook.
On a side note,
Best way to get sanctions from the commish (loss of picks/fines) is to do something outside of the rules.
I suspect that no one on the Vikings staff is doing anything to violate those rules. Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

Didnt we hire Musgrave before the lockout?.. No reason Webb shouldnt have a copy..

Re: Joe Webb: Quietly and Confidently Preparing
Assuming the playbook was already made. I'm sure adjustments are happening along the way to different plays. But Webb and any other QB brought in should get a playbook regardless of the rules.

Re: Joe Webb: Quietly and Confidently Preparing
They've just gotta 'drop it in the street' and have Webb 'find' it.

Re: Joe Webb: Quietly and Confidently Preparing
He may already one but having him install a new version offense being that he's only got one year of experience could be interesting, I'm sure vets with more experience will help but when the lockout ends Musgrave and Fraiser may have to spend a far amount of time correcting misinterpretations of some schemes.......but then again this could still work better than the KAO version of the last WCO
