Re: Is Javon Kearse an Option?

At this point, we just need a body at the position.
You can't go wrong with a one-year, incentive laced contract.
There really is no big risk.
And hopefully we can get a good DE in the draft.
    I love lamp.

...Kearse did not appear close to contract terms with the Titans as of Wednesday evening.

That's a good sign for the Vikings, who have been attempting to add defensive ends in free agency but have been unable to lure one for a visit.....

Free-agent defensive end Jevon Kearse concluded his visit with the Tennessee Titans on Wednesday, and it remained uncertain whether he would be here for today's scheduled meeting with the Vikings......

The problem with it is the fact that you need to find a guy to let loose.
The staff ended the season with the following on the active roster:

    RDE Edwards
    RDE Grigsby
    RDE Robison
    LDE Mitchell
    LDE Udeze

When/if they bring back James I assume Grigsby will be the odd man out at RDE and you still need to add a guy at LDE for Keneche.

If we sign Kearse as a situational guy you could possibly be looking at a rotation/lineup like this.

    RDE Edwards
    RDE James
    RDE Robison
    RDE Kearse
    LDE Mitchell

My guess is they will have to still add a LDE either in the draft or Via a late roster cut VA.
    Who leaves then?
    Edwards, James, Robison?

Again, as I've said repeatedly, it all comes down to roster positions and who will make the 53 man roster. Unless they carry more than 5 DE's this year I don't see any room for a situational guy like Kearse.

I would bring him in and sign him to a contract that is based on a couple of things, but mostly, is if he can make the roster and then a bunch of incentives based on number of snacks/sacks etc.

My guess is he probably wouldn't be happy with a contract like that and won't want to come here.

I don't think James will play next year. Childress sounded pretty dismal about his changes of playing.
He is getting corrective surgery to fix his last surgery. I expect the extra space will come from him being on the PUP or IR.

Shouldn't come as much of a surprise to anyone...although I think he could be more productive here with the Williams boys...

Has he left for Minny yet?
PFT was reporting that he wasn't even close on contract terms with the Titans, so this could just be a play for $$$.
But that being said, it isn't like we are going to offer him a boatload of money either...

Seems like you and I are the only ones that remember that.
Everytime I leave him off a roster I get guff from someone.
