I can't take total credit for this as I got the stats from a different Message board But I think you get the idea.
If you want a better idea of how these picks may or may not
turn out, here is what the #17, 73, and 82 picks have been since pretty much the "modern draft" I still hear people say we gave up to much. (a few are Pack Fans

Re: Jared Allen vs the picks we gave up
IMPRESSIVE!
BUT you could do that with EVERY player and end up making the person traded for look bad by comparison.
Just goes to show that the draft is a crap shoot...and that a bird in the hand is STILL better than two in the bush.
BANNED OR DEAD...I'LL TAKE EITHER ONE

Re: Jared Allen vs the picks we gave up
Nice breakdown. As soon as the trade happened I saw what we gave up and thought it might be a little much (mainly because I love watching the draft and the vikes then had few picks). But, since that initial point I really think the FO made the right choice in bringing in Jared Allen. Not only is he a GREAT football player, he instantly brings more credibility to a defense that is already one of the tops in the league. He also brings a fun-loving nature, he loves the game, he plays hard, and that is going to rub off on his teammates.
As for the draft picks, after looking at the third round picks from the last few years (at the positions the vikes gave up) they are not missing out on a whole lot. Plus, with all of their wheeling and dealing I think they did a great job of still bringing in guys who were not only steals at their draft position but also needs for this team. I'm anxious for the season and to watch Jared Allen tear up opposing tackles!!"I play for the love of the game; I play because there is no greater feeling than hearing 80,000 fans screaming when you smack somebody!"

Re: Jared Allen vs the picks we gave up
Very interesting stuff.
I would say that what really matters is not what happened in the past, but what happened in this draft.
Not sure if we would have taken the same guys at 17 but it is interesting to look at what was taken and who else was avail at those picks.

I agree, however, if we would have kept the picks I would also have been happy with Otah or Baker at 17, Tyrell Johnson at 43, Pat Sims at 73 and Stevens at 82."Marrdro" wrote:

Eh ... I am middle of the road on this. If we had kept the picks we were going defensive end at 17 ... and we could not do better than Mr. Allen.
I like where we ended up and think we actually drafted fairly well. I would not go back on the deal with a second offer.

Re: Jared Allen vs the picks we gave up
look at what jacksonville gave up for their move upward.. that would have been the same move for us. and.. just as it shows.. We got a proven DE, extremely good talent and not having to wait 2-3 years for his production.
+ he's 26.. he'll be going strong for the full length of the contract!!
we did the move in a compete now ideal.. this is our window we need to jump on it and launch the next few years with the depth we are building in the draft. we should be looking very well setup for this, and the next few years.
so based on this opinion. no. i don't think we over compensated the Chiefs.. and no i don't this they will suffer as much as people think. they are rebuilding. and had a significant number of pics. seems to me it's a full on win/win situation.
