Ravens to let Jamal Lewis test free agencyBy Chris Mortensen

The Baltimore Ravens have informed running back Jamal Lewis that he will not receive the franchise or transition tag from the team, meaning he will become a free agent.

General manager Ozzie Newsome informed Lewis of the move Wednesday morning and told Lewis the team wanted to give him a chance to test the market and see what his value is. The team, in fact, worried that tagging Lewis would anger him.

The move does not preclude the Ravens from re-signing Lewis.

Backup running back Chester Taylor also will become a free agent on March 3.

Looks like another trade rumor of Daunte Culpepper is dead. The only way I see him going to Baltimore is if we get Ray Lewis in exchange now. 1 more down, 20 to go..
I just saw this on the bottom line on ESPNews. Great news!

There is a ton of news right now. More than I care too post. Go see!

here are some of the headlines on espn.com

Colts keep WR Wayne with new deal worth nearly $40M
    • Ravens won't use tag on RB Lewis, might lose him
    • Brady has surgery, but Patriots not saying on what
    • Jets are Law-less: N.Y. parts ways with cornerback
    • Bills designate CB Clements as franchise player
    • Dolphins RB Williams appealing positive drug test
    • Vince Young won't work out for scouts at NFL combine
    • Broncos sign Lynch to two-year contract extension

that is pretty damn funny right there

    Chuch.

Reed or Lewis for DC??? But not the Lewis you think....

Minnesota Vikings – Don’t look for the team to acquire free agent running back Jamal Lewis from the Baltimore Ravens. Those who have studied new head coach Brad Childress’s offense say Lewis would be a bad fit and he doesn’t offer enough versatility. In fact, on Wednesday the Ravens announced that they will not use the franchise tag on Lewis and he will be free to negotiate with other teams.

"The Ravens have decided not to franchise or transition Jamal Lewis. At the same time, we will still consider the possibility of talking with Jamal about a long-term contract with us. I've spoken with Jamal and his agent (Mitch Frankel) today to let them know," General Manager Ozzie Newsome said.

That said, if the Ravens are still interested in trading for Vikings quarterback Daunte Culpepper, they have defensive players like safety Ed Reed and linebacker Ray Lewis who are not happy with their contract situations. Lewis would like to be traded and Reed is looking for a new contract, according to what an NFL source told Viking Update.

    That would work.......

I wish.. Im positive that won't happen though..

I doubt we could get just 1 of them for DC.. Expecially since we are only asking for a 2nd round pick

I would not mind having either of those two. If we could some how swing a deal to get both of them I would be so excited.

Reed and Lewis would really be fine with me for DC. We would be able to try to go into free agency and pick up a solid RB or QB and then try to trade up for a RB or QB... interesting.

This really made sense to me when I read it, Childress is looking for speed at linebacker, and we need a safety to replace Chavous. Could you imagine Ed Reed and Sharper back there...oh my god...

On ESPN the other night, they were talking about the reality of DC getting traded. (Very highly according to them) They also said that the vikings were quoted on saying that they wout want more then a 2nd round pick for DC....and ESPN thinks that it could happen...!

I also do agree that we could possibly snag one of them. I would rather have ed reed....that would boost our secondary to one of the best in the league!

If I had to choose one I would take Reed. There are quite a few good linebackers in the draft that could be nice steals later on.
