I like threads like this, but this isn't Madden people. What makes you think that Ocho Cinco will even possibly be available? He won't. It is also highly unlikely that Arizona is willing to part with Fitz ... and we would have to offer a lot more than the first round No. 7 slot pick.

No need to trade up. Looking at the board and looking at most draft experts current feeling ... I think we will see Jarrett or C.J. at No. 7 and either one should make a good fit.

If Calvin Johnson is available, we should take him. He won't flip this offense around his rookie year, and will prove to be a rookie when he plays. If CJ isn't there, I say we trade down for multiple picks. I liked someones idea of coupling udeze and our #1 pick and trading with a team that has a later #1 pick for a proven pass rusher. If neither one of those two scenarios works out, I say we go for an O-lineman to shore up the right side or just simply trade for more picks. I hope we pick up a promising safety in the draft. PS-what date is the draft?

At this moment in time it is too early to speculate that those 2 recievers will declare for the draft.
I believe I heard that Jarrett might return to USC next year 50/50 chance.
And with C.J.'s mom having her docterate, she might prefer him to stay in school to complete his degree.

All in all we will know more in the upcoming weeks.

Good points here. I think that most people think that WR is our most pressing need, but anytime you see our defense play it is hard to not think that a pash-rusher is not more important for us. Udeze stops the run well and James should be back, but to get a proven pass-rusher will make our defense ten-times better right off of the bat. Maybe that is the way to go. No. 7 is always a risky pick for offensive players besides RB, but defensive players are easy to recognize in this hole (remember we were talking about some Merriman guy with that pick we took Williamson with). I think I lean toward a defensive draftee or trade.

The analysts were saying that he will make his decision in about a week and a half before he goes on his trip (I think Bulivia to check on homes he built for the less fortunate). Yup, he's that kind of guy. He comes from a good home and great parents that raised him very well. I'd love to get him (without having to trade the seven), but if not, we should fill the biggest needs first.

I really don't think that either the Bengals or Cardinals are even entertaining the thought of trading away either receiver. But...We are the team that gave away the bank for Walker.

    Are you kidding me?
    Absurd and won't happen.
Dwight Smith and Mike Rosenthal to move up to #2?
    No way!!!

I don't know if you have ever heard of the draft pick value chart - it is what NFL teams use to determine how much a pick is worth.
the #2 overall pick is worth 2600 points.
The #7 pick is worth 1500 and the 71st pick (our 3rd rounder) is worth 235 points.
Our 6th round (167) pick is worth 24.6 points so in your second scenario we still need to make up 840.4 points for them to want to accept it.

Our best chance to trade up would be to trade our first, third and 4th to move up to #4but all that would be useless because Arizona and Washington aren't going to draft a WR so we wouldn't need tog et ahead of them.
A trade to get any higher would almost have to include our first rounder next year in addition to our second or third rounder this year and that isn't going to happen.
Because veteran players that the Lions need aren't worth anything.

Fuck the point system, teams will go with what makes sense, and for the Lions
it makes sense for them to make that trade. They need offensive line help, and they need secondary help. Both of these guys are relatively young Rosenthal is close to 30 but hasn't really been worked that much, so he's a "fresh 30".

The Lions are not in a position to get Brady Quinn, the Raiders will take him first. And they will be able to get Jamarcus Russel or a tackle at #7. My trade wasn't suggesting only draft picks, that was the second package.

I'm watching the Rose Bowl right now and I don't think we need to trade up anymore. I'll be very happy with Dwayne Jarrett,he's destroying Leon Hall, who si supposed to be the top corner in the nation. but I still prefer Calvin Johnson.

Re: If We trade our first round pick who should we trade for?

Calvin Johnson will go in the top 5. Teams that draft in the top 5 almost ALWAYS go for the best player available regardless of position.. And if they fit a team need (like Gallery was touted to be for the Raiders a few years ago) then that's just lovely. In fact, I'm surprised everyone thinks we have a chance at him because Detroit drafts at #2.. You know Matt Millen has a hard-on for Calvin already.

I'd like to see us take Dwayne Jarrett with the #7 pick, but looking at who is ahead of us in the draft I'd say Tampa might be tempted to take him, as Joey Galloway isn't getting any younger and Michael Clayton has fallen from the lofty heights of his rookie season.

Re: If We trade our first round pick who should we trade for?

I'd wait to see who we pick up in free agency first & then look at our remaining needs to see who we should draft. Unless of course, they are looking for the best player at the time of the pick, regardless of position.

The draft is a crapshoot, but at least with FA you know what you are getting.
