How Would Allen change FA and the draft?
Would we still look at DE high in the draft? or would we look in the mid rounds? OT then becomes the priority or another position like QB or WR? Some of this I suppose depends what the deal is and what picks we may have but if we still have a second there would still be some decent options in round 3 and 4 for DE, WR, QB and OT which I see as the possible targets.
First round pick would be gone, do we try to get back into the first round by making a trade or pick up some picks in round 2-3?
Re: How Would Allen change FA and the draft?
If we can find a way to get the Allen deal done it definitly changes up the draft situation, but I believe in a good way. We all know we need an impact DE and even at 17 this isn't garunteed, especailly with Merling, Calias Cambell and some others as possibilities. I don't believe WR is a pressing issues, I think it would be difficult for any late round WR to make our roster. With Berrian, Rice, Wade, Allison and Furgy we should be fairly set, all these guys made an impact last year, two were rookies and Berrian is a proven commodity.
I also believe there is a slight chances Thigpen could be in the works of this trade. If so this solves that problem. I see our biggest issues with depth along the offensive line. I really have no feel for what there thoughts are on Chase Johnson but I know we like Dan Mozes.
Either way getting Allen frees us up in the draft to do as we please, should be exiting even if its just second day selections. What we dicide to do with McKinnie will also play a big role. Experts claim this year is great for OT's hopefully we can get someone fairly early to compete with Chase.
DT and Safety are both position that should get some attention.

i heard rumors that somewhere in Gus Frerotte's contract.. that we stated that we wouldn't pick up a QB in this years draft as a clause to get him to come here and be assured a spot on the team this year.
Anyone know anything else about that?
Cuz if thats true.. QB isn't even an option
Re: How Would Allen change FA and the draft?
This thread is totally unnecessary. Don't you know we're trying to get the other one to over 100 pages by day's end? Anything relating to Allen can go in that thread.
Now then, here's a derailer:

Re: How Would Allen change FA and the draft?
- We would have less picks
-We would be less likely to take a RDE in the draft
Re: How Would Allen change FA and the draft?
we would not have early draft picks
we would basically be drafting for depth
OT
DT
QB
S
TE

I don't think we needed a RDE.
We needed a LDE and a pure pass rusher.
Just so happens Allen is a RDE that can play LDE and is a pure pass rusher to boot.
Kindof fixes everything with one guy.
My guess would be (assumption is we give up our first and second) that we move up with our 2 3rds and take the following:
2nd:
OT
3rd: no Pick
4th:
DT
5th:
QB
6th:
S
6th:
Use to move up maybe into higher round
7th:
Use to move up maybe into higher round

We may have to have some sort of wager on this. How about the following:
If he is a starter at RDE you send me some flat fish after the season
If he is a starter at LDE after they bulk him up I will send you some Southern Minnesota Ringneck to feast on with Wildwoman? ;)
I don't mean periodic play, I mean they start there and play an overwhelming percentage of plays from that position.
Either way we would both win because that would mean he was on the team ;D

I will just swap with ya anyway.
No need to bet. However, you do see the logic behind what I say.
What is a better lineup to put pressure on the O as well as ensuring we keep them form running against us?
RDE Allen
DT Williams
DT Williams
LDE Mitchell
I much prefer
RDE Robison
DT Williams
DT Williams
LDE Allen
Rob got 4.5 sacks last year as a rookie.
Give that kid some one on ones from the QB's blind side and he will double that.
Jared can sack the QB from that side just as good as he can from the Right side.
Because we have a threat on both sides the Williams brothers will dance all day long in the backfield.
Pockets will be non existant and we will still be able to hold both ends agains the run......

One problem....most of Robison's success came from the LDE. How often did you here his name when EJ went down and Edwards got suspended propelling him to the starting role?
