Frerotte wants shot at QB job
Vikings' Frerotte wants shot at QB job
He led the Purple to an 8-3 record as a starter when Tarvaris Jackson was hurt, only to get hurt and replaced by Jackson later in the season. He'd like to start again.

Vikings quarterback Gus Frerotte, who was 8-3 as a starter last season until he got hurt and was replaced by Tarvaris Jackson, is signed for next year, but he says it is up to coach Brad Childress whether he is back or not...

Re: Frerotte wants shot at QB job
Rediculous. After TJ's performance after Frerotte's injury tells me there's no chance Frerotte will ever win the starting job.
Why wouldn't we have started him when he was healthy? No one would shed a tear if he decides to retireRosie O'Donnell is a dude!

Re: Frerotte wants shot at QB job
He throws just as many INTs as Favre, with much less starting experience. Just because you went 8-3 with a loaded with talent team does not make you starter material. Same goes for Jackson. He has potential but IMO is not ready for the pressures of a starting job. Garcia and Leftwich are two guys I would like to see brought in to challenge TJ.

Re: Frerotte wants shot at QB job
Gus always catches hell about his interceptions. I don't feel he deserves the disrespect he sometimes gets on this board.
He was a winner and gave the team his best.
And though I respect him for that, I don't see a place for him on next years roster.
I think most people want to see an upgrade at QB.
I don't desire a real QB competition. I want to see an upgrade.
An upgrade over Gus and TJ.
However, if the Vikings feel TJ is the man, then Gus would be a serviceable back up.
I sure hope not.“What takes a quarterback to the next level is not arm strength or mobility or any of that stuff. It’s the ability to play on critical downs. Manage third downs, or red zones or four-minute or two-minute situations"

Re: Frerotte wants shot at QB job
Sounds more like he's begging to me....Frerotte signed a two-year, $3.75 million contract with the Vikings. He knows there might be other quarterback options in the free-agent market, but some of them would be expensive.
"I think some of them come with a high price tag," Frerotte said. "Do you pay all that money for Matt Cassel in New England?"...
If you have a career hack that wants only to start when the coach thinks TJack is the future it is not a good thing.
There are only two reasons to have a veteran QB if you think you have a young future QB:
1.
Have the veteran start and let the punk learn.
2.
Have the punk start and have the veteran mentor.
Since it appears that Childress wants TJack to start and he has never allowed a QB competition it is safe to assume that neither of those conditions would work out with Frerotte.
Childress is in a self-inflicted bind with the QB situation and TJack holds the keys to whether or not Childress will walk the plank or there will be an offensive coaching housecleaning.
It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
If Childress makes a move to get a veteran QB and has a legitimate competition in camp he can redeem himself.
If he goes the draft route he puts all his eggs in the TJack basket since he only has two years left in his contract.

He has a point about only being in the system for 6 months. The west coast system is a system that is difficult to grasp quickly. He did ok for not haping the amount of time in the system jackson had.

Any packer or ex-packer is fair game here isn't it?

LOL I am just saying Gus deserves the disrespect he gets. He gets sacked a lot and throws a lot of INTs. I will be glad to see him leave. Favre was only in the Jets system for what 0 months before the season, yet people like Marrdro like to point out all the INTs he threw. Laughable."marstc09" wrote:
