Falcons turn Vikes down on trade offer for Schaub

It is nice to see that we were not offering our first round pick or both seconds like a lot of people on here were thinking.

Vikings | No go with Schaub trade
    Sat, 8 Apr 2006 20:36:47 -0700

Kevin Seifert, of the Star Tribune, reports the Minnesota Vikings were turned down in their most recent offer for Atlanta Falcons backup QB Matt Schaub, and they appear on track to draft their quarterback of the future later this month. The Vikings reportedly offered Atlanta one of their two second-round picks for Schaub, but the Falcons have insisted on getting a first-round pick for Schaub. The Vikings have been unwilling to part with their first-round selection, No. 17 overall, to get him.

    Or is it over???

    Sims might elude Vikings
    CHARLEY WALTERS
Latest word is that the Cleveland Browns, who pick No. 12 in the April 29 NFL draft, and the Philadelphia Eagles, who pick No. 14, have Florida State linebacker Ernie Sims in their sights.

If Sims is taken before Minnesota gets a chance, it wouldn't be surprising if the Vikings, who have the No. 17 pick, offer the pick to the Atlanta Falcons for 24-year-old backup quarterback Matt Schaub.

So we're basically sitting at 17 for ONLY Sims? That seems ridiculous to me. Greenway and Carpenter are just as good as Sims, if not better. If we have our sites set on one guy, we're going to get screwed.

I've heard Sims compared to Derrick Brooks and that he is agreat fit for a cover 2 defense. His size might be a slight draw back but the biggest negative around Sims could be his health, heard on Total Access Sims has had problems with concussions which for a LB could be a big problem.

Who knows what's really going on . . . this could be just a smokescreen or, more than likely, an opinion of the writer.

However IF this is true, I for one think this might not be a bad deal. SCHAUB has shown real promise at the NFL level. Everyone else in the draft hasn't had the opportunity to show us their goods at the NFL level yet. They are all just paper champions right now.

Trading our 1st round pick for SCHAUB would be an educated gamble that may just pay off . . . BIGTIME!

I assume this means Schaub is signed to a contract extension by Atlanta or agrees with the Vikings before the trade happens?! Isn't Schaub a free agent after next season anyways? I'd have to think the Vikings won't give up a 1st rounder at this point for one year of Schaub and no guarantees long term.

capenter is way better because he can play d end too. and if you read about his work out he was only operating at like 85% and the scouts were stil blown away.

    Good

Hasn't shown that he is worth a first round yet..

2nd round for Pep with a bum knee even tho he is a top 3-5 QB in the league

3rd round for T.O even though he has mental issues

Shaub isn't even close to these guys levels.. But has no problems.. So a 2nd sounds good.. And he will be a FA next year so he will want a huge contract if he does good anyway..
