    Re: Falcons to shop Schaub

Though I think that he is one of the best backups in the league, I don't think that he is worth a 1st round pick, let alone adding more picks on top of that. I vote for giving up a 2nd round pick but nothing more(as if my vote matters 8)).

Nothing, he's just been riding Ron Mexico's coat tails.

He will be an unrestricted free agent next year, he is worth a 3rd rounder at best.

Re: Matt Schaub... still a possiblility

In Schuab's new contract that he signed, it states that for a trade to happen between the Falcons and another team, the team Matt would be traded to would have to give a 1st and 3rd round draft pick. They put this in the contract to make Matt virtually untradable. No link, but heard it on ESPNRadio.

Let's wait and see. Maybe Schaub wants a chance to start and will turn down the offer because it makes him untradable.

Okay - let's correct this misnomer.

Matt Schaub is a Restricted Free Agent (RFA).
Prior to the free agency period beginning, teams are allowed to put what they call "tender offers" in place which put a value on the player in terms of compensation to the original team if someone ELSE signs them as a free agent.

So - if the Vikings were to SIGN Schaub as an RFA, they would then own the compensation to the Falcons which is outlined above.
The Seahawks made a similar tender offer to WR DJ Hackett a couple of days ago.

This is NOT, however, the scenario which people are talking about.
The most likely scenario is a sign (by the Falcons) and trade (to anyone) which does NOT require the compensation outlined above.
The only compensation in a trade is that which is offered as part of the trade.

    Okay?

    =Z=

Thanks to Josdin for the awesome sig!
