    Re: Falcons to shop Schaub

Who knows what direction Childress goes with this news. He was willing to give up a 2nd last year but now that Tarvaris is around who knows..

IMHO i think we should get Carr, Schaub, or Quinn this offseason.
    We need one of them.
I don't think Tarvaris is the long term franchise qb we want.
If we can get Schaub for a 3rd or Carr for a 3rd or 4th.
Or Quinn at #7 I'd take any of those options.

I pulled up the Atlanta Journal-Constitution
that was in the previous link.
Appears that Atanta is going to make it way to costly to get him this year.

The Falcons do not want to lose Schaub and plan to place a one-year contract tender on him, possibly in excess of $2 million, as well as a compensation attachment of a first and/or third-round draft pick.

The high ransom could discourage some teams, however, a straight trade for a draft pick or a player should not be ruled out. As much as the club wants to keep Schaub, it doesn't want to lose him for nothing after the 2007 season when he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

The Falcons wouldn't trade him for a 1st round pick last year, why are they going to except a 2nd or 3rd round this year?

It will take at least a 1st round pick to get Schaub if not a 1st and 5th or 6th round thrown in.
What we've got here is failure to communicate.

    Re: Falcons to shop Schaub

I say if they can get Schaub for a second round draft pick, take it.
He's only due $2M and he has experience in the NFL.
Although his W-L record isn't the best he can still flat out play.
He is used to this type of offense.
He has a good arm and shows good leadership and confidence on the field.

It's easy to say his W-L record stinks therefore he stinks.
    That's not the case.
There's such a thing as rythem.
So I would imagine if he played more he would have more of a rythem.
If you want to go strictly by W-L records than I guess TJ stinks too.
    He's 0-2.
I guess Joe Namath was bad in his day too since he had a losing record.

We have this debate year after year and yes I think Matt Schaub is worth taking for a second round draft pick.
Especially if some of the predictions are correct of the Vikings trading down.

Carr would be a much better option...both from a cost standpoint...and from the standpoint that he has more starting experience and would be more successful playing behind our line as opposed to the porous one that the Texans have fielded since their inception.
BANNED OR DEAD...I'LL TAKE EITHER ONE

Yes I think Carr would be a better option as well depending on the contract amount and what we have to give up.

Carr = 4 rounder and a salary of $5.5M (I think unless contract is restructured)
    Schaub = 2nd rounder and a salary of $2M

It all depends on what is decided as far as the draft pick too.
Are we going to trade down therefore get another draft pick possibly?
There's a lot to consider as to which QB is the better option.
If we got either one, I wouldn't be mad.
It's just that if we pay Carr 5.5M and he loses out to TJ I would rather pay 2M to a back up.
Not that it's coming out of my pocket but I'm looking at what's better for the team.

I believe the reason they would take less this year is that he is UFA next year? So better to get something this year, than nothing next.

Carr has more wear and tear on him though. Does that sway you at all? I don't necessarily like one guy more than the other but Carr has been pretty beaten up over his first few years.
his durability is another positive thing about him..at least here he would have a line to protect him
