    DT to San Fran

    NINERS START SPENDING

Though none are all that high in profile, the 49ers have already made a few moves in free agency.

The Niners reportedly have agreed to terms with Lions quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan, running back DeShaun Foster, and Vikings linebacker Dontarrius Thomas.
Foster recently had been released by the Panthers.

Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rose Press-Democrat also reports that the Niners will host defensive end Justin Smith on Friday.
Smith is scheduled to visit the Vikings, too.

Finally, receiver Isaac Bruce could be heading to San Fran, where he'd be reunited with former Rams coach Mike Martz, who's now the offensive coordinator of the Niners.

Good for Thomas, he needed a fresh challenge..

Hopefully we can snag Smith before he gets to San Fran..

That's too bad that we had to lose Thomas but now San Fran better keep their asses out of our business and let us sign Smith if he wants to be here.

I agree... From what I have been reading Smith would have to play linebacker in the 49ers 3-4 defense. Maybe them signing DT will take place of what they wanted to do with smith.

I think they want to play Thomas on the inside..

This is going to leave us quite thin at LB.
I wonder if we have plans to bring in a FA or else take one or two in the draft.
If Rivers falls to 17 that would likely be the BPA.
That would make our LB corps even more sick!

My guess is that like LB, the Vikes will focus thier draft picks on players that will act as backups/future stars and will spend CAP on positions that they need starters at.

And then you have a couple of positions of such dire need (starters and backups) that you will see them do both, draft and FA.

Draft (DE, DT, LB, RB, CB, S, QB)

    FA (WR, DE, S)

    And we’re back.

The Santa Rosa Press-Democrat reported a little while ago that linebacker Dontarrious Thomas has agreed to terms with the San Francisco 49ers...

    REPORT OF NINERS SIGNINGS PREMATURE
Posted by Mike Florio on February 29, 2008, 2:43 a.m.

A league source tells us that the report from the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat that the Niners have signed quarterback J.T. O’Sullivan, linebacker Dontarrius Thomas, and running back DeShaun Foster are premature.

Per the source, contact has been made by the 49ers with each player, but no deal has been done.
    Yet.
