    Draft Target!!

    Draft Target: OT Marcus McNeill
    Date: Feb 15, 2006

The Vikings have a desire to improve up front, and massive Auburn tackle Marcus McNeill is projected to be drafted somewhere around the Vikings’ 17th pick. Get a look at McNeill’s accomplishments, an assessment from a scout and audio from a Senior Bowl interview he conducted with Scout.com.

At 6-foot-9 and 337 pounds, massive offensive tackle Marcus McNeill is Scout.com’s third-ranked player at his position prior to the NFL Combine, which starts next Thursday.

McNeill started slowly at last month’s Senior Bowl, but that was understandable as he was behind in his sleep because of the death of his grandmother. He was up until 3:45 a.m. before the first day of practices, but wanted to participate to show off his skills. By later in the week, he was busy impressing scouts.

"McNeill projects well on either the strong side or at left tackle and if he consistently plays on all cylinders, he can be a productive NFL tackle for years to come," noted one NFL scout. "Overall, you'd have to say he has tremendous potential for the next level."

His college resume features a long list of awards, including the 2005 winner of the Jacobs Trophy as the top blocker in the Southeastern Conference. He was also named to two All-American teams and four All-SEC teams as a senior and was one of three finalists for the Outland Trophy.

His junior season also was impressive: coaches' All-SEC first-team selection and Associated Press All-SEC first-team member.

The big statistic for McNeill is the fact that he is credited with giving up only one sack in his college career, and he remembers it well even though it was in 2002.

Considering the Vikings’ desire to improve on the line and the fact that McNeill is projected to be selected somewhere around the Vikings’ 17th pick, he could be a realistic target for the team.

This is MY first alternative...IF we don't get DeAngelo, LenDale or Maroney in the first round. This guy is HUGE and would be the perfect compliment to Mount McKinney on the other side. The McBrothers would be awesome bookends for our OL for the next 10 years!!!

    Re: Draft Target!!

    Strengths:
A massive mountain of a man who is an imposing physical presence...Has a large frame with long arms, big hands and a wide base...Tremendous athlete for his size and has great feet...Moves laterally extremely well and it is not easy to get around him...Does a good job getting to the second level of defenders...Has good playing strength...Smart player with top intangibles who wants to get better...An all-around performer who is a major factor as both a run blocker and pass protector.

    Weaknesses:
Will play too upright at times due to his height...Has some medical issues with his back and neck that will have to be cleared...Will get caught leaning...May lack a nasty demeanor and that killer instinct...Will get lazy and lose concentration at times...Needs to refine and become more consistent with his technique...Is not as explosive as you would expect a guy with his mass and dimensions to be.

    Notes:
From a measurables standpoint this guy is off the charts and exactly what you look for in a stud tackle...Could project to either the left or right side as a pro...Experienced and has led the way for some great rushing attacks...You simply can't teach the type of size and athleticism this guy brings to the table.

    Thank to Lotza

Wow we would be huge at tackle with this guy..

I'd take him if we don't get DeAngelo or Maroney.. Then if he isn't available either take Lendale
