What makes you think that? He surely doesn't play like he's 37. It would be prime time to bring in a replacement, but I think Pat will see the end of his contract while starting.Phat Pat is running on fumes....Pat Williams turns 37 during the season...
This will be addressed.
I wouldn't be surprised to see a mid-round pick go in that direction.
I see only 2 guys in the mix (draft) this year that are pocket collapsers/run stuffers like Phat Pat. Peria and Raji.
My guess is that both could be gone long before we pick.
If, however one of those cats fall to us at 22, it would be sweet to snatch him up. Together with Guion, that would be a set of nice rotation guys until they are required to replace Phat Pat and Kevin and then (Guion is gol 'darnit young) they would wreak havock for years to come.
run-stuffing NT's.
Unless they would be able to put on 15-20 lbs and maintain their quickness.
Hell, lets just sign Haynesworth and play a 5-2 until big Pat retires

I don't consider Phat Pat as your prototypical 1 gap or single technique kindof guy.
He has shown that he has the fexibility to play multi-gap, multi-technique set which makes it hard for the OL to block him and Ocords to account for him.
With that said, both Raji and Peria are those types of guys with Brace a slightly lower option (2nd/3rd round). Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

I can't agree on taking a DT in the first round. Maybe next year.

I agree V. I think with this Crop of LBs. We should grab one or a WR in the first.
How old is Leber? He has to be 31 or so. I would like to draft a potential replacement for Ben and groom him for a year or 2.
A true # 1 WR would be nice to pick up with Heywood and Nicks being available.
Isn't in funny that this draft class and this FA class are both limited.

Re: Don't expect the Vikings to spend like it's 2008 on free agents
We have a decent nickel corner in MacCauley, problem is he doesn't fit the scheme.
Sure we could sign every big name FA this side of Russia, but all we really need is one cat who fits the cover 2.
I think it might be easiest to get a true cover 2 guy right out of college. With all the spread offenses you can bet your ass DBs get a lot of work on angles and tackling in the open feild.

Nicks should be the pick.. but he wont...
and we need a CB worse than we need a LB... LB most likely in the third...
OT/WR/CB in the first!

Re: Don't expect the Vikings to spend like it's 2008 on free agents
With all the tags and RFAs and last minute resignings, the FA pool has already been pretty picked over.
With DEN and GB needing a NT to anchor their new 3-4 defenses, I don't see much chance of Raji or PJ making it to 22...I was thinking more likely a 2nd or 3rd round pick on a guy with the size to add some bulk as he matures for a year or two.
Deep class of WRs in this draft.
I'd really, really like some talent added to that position somehow, somewhere, hopefully earlier than later.
Bly gets beat a lot.
Just ask a Broncos or Lions fan.
I'm not sure he's worth what he'll likely be looking for.
I think I'd rather see a pick spent on the spot, especially if that guy has some return skills too.
I'd also like an upgrade to RT, C, and FB.
FB and a third RB can likely be had with later picks.
A reliable C or RT may be harder to find in the draft, but there's not a lot available in FA either.
My big question is still C.
That is where the ball starts every offensive play.
Love to see J.Brown a Viking...or, Birk and another rookie?
Draft seems pretty deep at OT too...maybe we can get some competition there.Control the line, control the time, and give your D a chance to shine!!
