Darrion Scott isn't happy with Vikings' offer

Scott isn't happy with Vikings' offer

Restricted free agent Darrion Scott said Wednesday he probably won't sign his contract until the April 20 deadline and admitted he was disappointed the Vikings elected to place the lowest of the NFL's four tenders on him.

Not a good thing considering our DT situation.

We may need to draft one after all.

Re: Darrion Scott isn't happy with Vikings' offer

While I admit a player should ask for all he can get, Scott hasn't shown enough to get top money.
What shold he get?
something less than top money.

This quote makes no sense, and indicates he is talking with his heart, not his head:

" .........."If you don't see me being here in the long-term, at least give me something, a higher tender," Scott said.....
"

If the team wasn't going to keep him, they should pay him more than what they have to per league rules?
???
:

His comments to the press are almost a 'swan song' at this point of contract negotiations.
If you are unhappy with your contract offer, play out the deal in place, and move on.
Badmouthing the Vikings doesn't put him in a good light with future prospective employers, who most likely wouldn't want to deal with him, knowing they too might be dragged into an unpleasant 'public debate' over money.

He is a good Dt and he will get more money then that in the open market.

I believe that is where this is coming from.

Versital players that can play End and DT are worth money. Coming off a 5.5 sack year he could make more then that.

And I also have doubts that his comments about the money and the Vikings will hurt him with other teams when

A) if they agree he is worth more money

B) Other teams have been laughing/badmouthing us and our offseason moves anyway

I occassionally talk to HR people.
They say never talk badly about past employers in public.

Sure, some teams will overlook this situation.
They may be more desperate than another team which may have paid him 'top dollar', rather than the 'middle dollar' the
desperate team will pay.

Never limit your options.

Of course never burn bridges never give them a reason to hate you. It makes sense.

I don't think will stop him from making over a million dollars with another team in a heartbeat.

Apparently in the NFL those rules do not apply, if someone seems like they can make your team better they get signed. Even bad character players find jobs, this guy doesn't have a bad character.

Darrion Scott and his agent know what they are doing here.
I don't agree with bashing the organization that feeds you.
However, he has proven to be decent.
The fact he can play both positions make him that much more valuable.
They already know the Vikings are needing help in this area.
Therefore he is taking advantage of the situation.
I can't say I blame him for that.

I think we should have at least given him a second round tender, he has been the most consistent DE onour team since we drafted him.

I agree he can find a job.

But I believe his actions means he has about 10 options to find a new job, rather than 31 options.
Most teams will pass on him because he is going public with his gripes.

And the limited field of teams competing for his services may reduce his pay to mid-level rather than top dollar that might be paid by a team which would be concerned with good character, unselfishness, and discussion of issues in private.
