Thread: Dallas sportswriter gives Vikes "C" for Draft (!?)

A local sportswriter here in Dallas gave us a "C" grade for our draft. And that after drafting Booty and getting Allen !! He also wrote that we "slowed down the entire draft". I don't get that at all. Each team gets the same amount of time on the clock. I don't get how our selections and getting Allen "slowed" things down.

Can anyone explain that to me ?

I personally give us an "A" for this draft.

Given the low draft picks we had, I'm surprised anybody would give us a 'C'.
I thought they did pretty well with that they had.
Obviously we could argue a few moves here and there but for the most part they did a great job.
I question the last two picks, but really, how picky can you get that late in the draft?

I have no idea what he was refering to by "slowing down the draft".

He's just pissed off we got Tyrell Johnson who's gonna make Roy Williams look like a bust. IMO Dallas would have been far better off taking Tyrell with one of those first's to replace Roy "I Can't Cover" Williams. Instead they went out and drafted a RB from Jerry's almanator.

I lived there in the three years before the Cowboys' Super Bowl run in the early 90s (1-15, 7-9 and the Barry Sanders' annihilation of them in the playoffs years), and all that everyone there could do was whine and cry all day on the radio about how the Cowboys sucked.

BTW, what part of Dallass do you live in?
I was in both Mesquite and Plano when I lived there.
My wife's family is mostly up in the Lake Dallas area nowadays (after having moved down from Minnesota).

Some other members who live in that area are: V, 6-KINGS, Potus...and I'm probably missing a few more that are there as well.

Seriously ... when you take into account the Allen trade then there is no grade lower than a B+ you can give us ... and that is only if you want to harp on the lack of an OT.
The fact that we in essence got Allen, Johnson, Booty, Sullivan, Guion and Johnson looks pretty good on paper. And hell, Allen is more of a proven commodity than ANY of the players taken in the first round of this draft. Maybe I am a homer, but I do not think I would trade him for a single one of the other players taken in the first round (maybe Chris Long because I am from Charlottesville, but again, being a homer there.)
Even if you do not take into account the Allen trade ... we did a pretty good job with the picks that we had and made moves to get players that most had ranked much higher on their boards than the spot where we got them.
I am very happy with this draft ... and will be very happy when this writer can eat some crow.

What grade does the Examiner give us?

If you take Allen out of the equation, our draft does look pretty shitty w/ the exception of Tyrell Johnson.
Not a fan of Booty, unless I am slapping it from behind.

I like our UDFAs better than our picks.

yeah on a couple of my draft sheets Henderson was the 2nd best player we got... but i think Booty could become a very reliable QB

I agree... I think the key word for Booty, is the dreaded term "potential".

I like the pick though...I think TJack could benefit from somebody like him on the roster.
