Re: Cutler growing possibility

Snowinapril and viking_40 you both rule out the possibility of NO Saints taking a QB.

I'm not so sure about it.

First of all the contract with Brees is apparently constructed in a way that he'll have to prove himself early on. Look out for them shipping him out after one or maximum two years if he hasn't become great. Taking a young QB would be an insurance then.

Elseway they could go for Super Mario, which would be a good fit, though not their biggest need.

Don't look for them to go for D'Brick - even in a trade down - because they have taken OL early on for some years in the draft now. They should be settled there.

Then there is Hawk. He would be a reach at no. 2. And then the question is, if anyone are willing to trade up for their pick.

All in all I still see Leinart playing for the Saints. (Maybe he'll come home and play for the team that ends up moving to LA in a few years)

Thanks to PPE for the sig.

cogitans, If I were the Saints I would take Lienart but I wouldn't have signed Brees given the injury, I would have signed one of the older QBs to play while he learns the ropes.

Mind you, why should they not have both Brees and Leinart, if they can afford them both they should.

Re: Cutler growing possibility

Well, Scout.com's mock draft has been updated to show Cutler as the 17th pick in the Vikings hands:
http://nfldraft.scout.com/2/523664.html
they seem to agree.

Seeing as Mr Cheer or Die's reliable insider says Cutler is now the one on the Vikings radar:
http://blog.lib.umn.edu/maasx003/Vikings/
it's starting to look like more and more of a possibility.

It would surely be nice to see a rough Cutler buffed up by Johnson and Childress. Simms down in Tampa said Johnson was the best tutor he ever had in his entire football career
http://www.sptimes.com/2005/12/14/Bucs/Under_control__on_top.shtml
he said Johnson always had useful tidbits for him and taught him that you don't have to always force risky plays to always win games, a lesson Cutler could use. Forcing risky plays is his main downfall at this point. Johnson's always relied on skill to become a top QB since he didn't have the most talent, should we transfer some of that skill to Cutler (probably the most talented QB in the draft) we'd have some great results. Childress has done some great things with McNabb too.

We could also use a fast linebacker too. Give Tomlin, the defensive backs coach from last years #1 ranked defense (and coached the 2003's Superbowl winning defense that scored 3 TDs in the Superbowl), the tools he needs to succeed and our defense will go a long way. Either way we can't go wrong.

My guess is that we end up picking a LB, for some reason. I'll bet it's Greenway. I still don't think Cutler will be around at 17.

I would not be surprised to see us get a shot at Cutler ... and I would be surprised if he was there and we did not take him.

Cutler should not be in Vikings' plans

Cutler should not be in Vikings' plans

By Eric Krupka ; 04/26/2006

"With the 17th pick in the 2006 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select Jay Cutler, quarterback, Vanderbilt." If in some sick twist of fate Commissioner Paul Tagliabue says this on Saturday, Vikings fans should cringe and hope it is just a bad dream.

That's one opinion against many. Not saying he's wrong as many sure things bust after being drafted high, but who's to say Sims or Greenway won't be busts either.

It's all about checking them out and a bit of guess work. I think The Triangle have looked Cutler over and if they think he fits then I'm happy. The same with the two LBs above.

As long as we finish with a promising QB and LB plus a few interesting prospects I will be happy

I'm with ya viking_40.. all we are reading is people's opionins..

these are very biased.. and we should see what the tri-headed-angle gives us as far as board infrastructure. I'm sure they have positions, availability, and backup plans incase their guy isn't there.

so far i have been really happy with the drafting we've been doing.. and i hope it continues!!

That article is written by Eric Krupka. Who is Eric Krupka you may ask? My point exactly...
