Cole Konrad - 2 time NCAA heavyweight champion impresses Vikings

Konrad, naturally, makes big impression on Vikings

The former heavyweight champion wrestler for the Gophers is hoping to catch on with the Vikings as an unsigned free agent.

Wrestlers have had success in the NFL before, no reason to immediately write the guy off.
Personally, I think trying out a guy with that much size, speed, power and endurance is a good call, particularly at the guard position.
Wrestlers have great work ethic as well, and are very disciplined, so slap him on the practice squad and see if he can't learn the guard position.

If Konrad has any apptitude for playing guard, and if we think he can be develope'd, do it. One thing for sure, once a wrestler gets his hands on you you aren't going anywhere... Maybe he could play DT also.

the only reason we didn't take lesnar was tomlin's unwillingness to develop players. He didn't want the project. I think lesnar would have been a decent player had we kept him

No other team signed him...

because he's too dumb, way too raw of a project.
His entire athletic career (could argue until now with MMA) has been based solely off of simply over powering his opponants, can't do that in the NFL quite as much.
He didn't know any basic football terminology either.

Didn't a few of our recent players never really play the sport?

I think I heard Herrera didn't even play til college? Or late HS I guess maybe

David Dixon the old man didn't play football til way late

Never know with these guys.. Can't hurt to bring them to camp

Exactly.
If nothing else, it'll be fun to watch and gives the locals something to talk about
