Chris Cook making a push in Vikings camp

While national discussion has centered on the status of quarterback Brett Favre and his injured teammates, there appears to have been an interesting under-the-radar development in the Minnesota Vikings' camp.
According to those who have been covering daily practices, rookie cornerback Chris Cook has flashed far more often than veteran Lito Sheppard -- the presumed short-term replacement for injured starter Cedric Griffin. Cook's playmaking continued during Friday's morning practice, when he broke up a 50-yard pass from Tarvaris Jackson to receiver Bernard Berrian.
Cook, the Vikings' top pick in the April draft, was sidelined by a minor injury this spring and entered training camp buried deep on the depth chart. But veteran nickelback Benny Sapp hasn't participated in many practices because of an injury, and a healthy Cook apparently has taken advantage of the nickel repetitions he has received.
I wonder if they have Chris Cook jerseys at the Vikings store now?

Re:Chris Cook making a push in Vikings camp
Cook definitely has been playing very well in training camp.. but I'll wait and see what he can do in the preseason as well.
He has had a couple good plays against Berrian, but most of his INTs have came either off of covering nobody WR's with Rice & Harvin sitting out or off of awful throws by Webb and Sage. Either way, he's been getting noticed.
We have a lot of young talent at CB and a lot of competition, definitely a good thing. Winfield & Griffin if healthy are the expected starters, although Winfield could be moved to nickle to keep him fresh. Either way they both have a spot, then you add Sapp (when healthy) who showed a lot of improvement last year, 2nd year Asher Allen (who I personally think could be a great corner for years), Cook, and Sheppard, I expect our backfield to be the best its been in recent years. Not that that's saying too much..
Re:Chris Cook making a push in Vikings camp
Well his name seems to be cropping more and more in the daily reports. If nothing else the repetition of making picks etc - whoever throws them - will boost his confidence no end which is never a bad thing. Will be interesting to see how he gets on when he goes up against a better QB like Favre but the signs are promising.

I agree it would be hard for the Vikes to regress in their backfield. Seems like they have made good moves at CB adding LS and CC, but what about safties? What are they doing and their backups? Is Tyrell going to FINALLY make that jump this year? MW is average at best and he isn't going to get any better.
I haven't read anything on the backups yet, is there anything noteable?
