Cherepinsky's Mock

http://walterfootball.com/draft2008.php

Walter Cherepinsky just updated his mock draft over at walterfootball.com and he has us taking:

1. Reggie Smith
S
2. James Hardy
WR
3. Chris Ellis
DE
3. Craig Steltz
S
4. John David Booty
QB

I would be absolutely ecstatic if something like this happened. This is exactly how I would hope the Vikings draft (maybe switching in Ainge/Flacco/O'Connell for Booty, but thats my personal opinion). Hardy and Steltz are two of my favorite players in this draft, and they are exactly what this team needs. I think we need to draft 2 safeties in this draft also, one to start this year (if Smith is leaving), and one to learn behind Sharper for when he retires.

Reggie Smith is perfect for us because he can play both safety and corner, which means he would be a good pick even if we keep Smith this season. James Hardy would also be a great pick for us. How is it possible to cover someone who is 6'7" in the red zone? With him and Rice (6'4") on the outside, I would really like our chances in the red zone (not to mention AP and Richardson being able to pound it up the middle). I think we need to pickup 2 young safeties, and 2 receivers this offseason (one rookie, and one decent free agent as well).

Walterfootball.com is my main site for prospect rankings. Its a very clean, professional looking site that is updated very frequently, and the guys in charge always have very well thought-out and reasoned opinions. It isn't the most in-depth and detailed site as far as player profiles go, but for anyone that is looking for a quick look at this year's (and next's) prospects, I would highly recommend this site.

They make a huge assumption about our DE position....
I don't have a problem with it though; we can continue to develop the young talent we have in Robison and Edwards; hopefully see a HEALED James next year, and let Udeze continue to do his thing...

I just don't know who available at DE will be a huge upgrade that is realistic.

Allen will get the franchise tag, but costs like 9 mill+ I think.... which may actually be a deterrent.
Suggs... who knows.

I don't see Reggie Smith dropping to #17, nor do I see him playing safety.
He is one of the better CBs in the draft, and will be drafted highly as such.

I have no idea who John David Booty is, but he gets my vote for coolest name...

Did he have anyone taking Limas Sweed in the first 4 rounds?

Dang, that would be sweet.

I'm pretty high on Hardy, he has size like Plaxico Burress and catches everything remotely close to him. I wouldn't be surprised if he is long gone by the 2nd round.. But only time will tell. The combine will reveal alot about players and where they are likely to be drafted.

If that actually happened, i would be thrilled! Hardy to me is one of the best recievers in the draft. I guess the only problem with him is some off field problems, but i dont think that will be a problem. Im not sure if reggie smith will be there but if he is that would be cool. 8)

Re: Cherepinsky's Mock

I favor Walter's Mock over like 99% of the other one's I've read the last couple of years.
His analysis is usually pretty good IMO.
I prefer Flacco or O'Connell rather than Booty though.
Rock out with your cock out!!!
