Champ bailey to be a FA this year???!

Elway also said he'd love to have star cornerback Champ Bailey back next season, but he wasn't sure the team's budget would allow that.
    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d81d79d73/article/elway-i-love-the-broncos-want-to-return-franchise-to-glory?module=HP_headlines

I'd say, given the state of our Defense, and how we need playmakers now, We NEED to go after him. yes he's old, yes he's not as good as he once was, but he's a hell of alot better than ANYBODY we have on roster. yes, that includes Winfield.

Given that Griffen has now torn two ACLs in two years, I don't think he's going to be our guy, we need a stop-gap player that can fill in. I can't think of a better guy for that role. At worst, he's an ok player. At best, he's a first-ballot hall of famer.

    Steps to fixing out DBs
    1)Cut Madon't Williams
    2) Move Win to Saftey
    3) Move Cook to Saftey (where he was projected)
    4) Sign Champ( if contract is reasonable)
    5) Play Griffen if (healthy) at corner
    6) In nickle, play Winfield in the slot and Abdullah at Saftey.

18 FA. 11 others that need thier contracts redone. Were ya gonna find money for Champ?

Even if you let the majority of the guys on this team that don't need to come back, you still have major issues with respect to the numbers and what they will cost to keep.

Again, were you gonna find the money for Champ, or any other top tier Vet for that matter?

My guess, this staff will be very quiet in the FA market this year.
Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v343/josdin00/Vikings/Marrdro_sig.jpg

Champ is past his prime, he's just a good corner now, not an elite one. He seems like a good, humble guy, I doubt that he'll be demanding the huge dollars.

besides, no salary cap, who cares?

we need help, he can help. money shouldn't be an issue.

We'll find the money in Ziggy's bank account. That's the first place I will look.

I'm not sure. Seems two years ago he had to get the other owners to cough up some dough.

Now that we might play in a stadium with less seats and even less skyboxes, I wonder if they might have to cut back a little in the area of roster spending.

I thought the university president said there was no way they would be able to get the stadium to accomodate professional football. Also, would Roger allow a pro team to play in such a small stadium? Isn't the smallest now around 65,000?

Re: Champ bailey to be a FA this year???!

I think many of you don't realize that we are going to free up a lof of cap. Look at the 20 million spent of Favre alone. That is reasonably 1 year of a contract for Rice and Greenway with money left over to sign Champ(20 million = 7 Rice, 6 for Greenway, 7 Champ). Lets not talk about loosing 6 million or so for Pat and cutting Madiue or his salary. We can cut BB's 5+ million this season as well.

With Luck gone, I don't think we should draft a Qb in the first. No impact saftey is available at this position, So we can Go OL. I would like us to trade back to the 15 spot and Grab Pouncy from Florida. The Kid can play either C or Guard and can be worked in depending on who not playing up to par next season Sully or Herrea. With the 15th we should have picked up an extra 3rd.

In the 2nd we can address WR as the 5 this season are all very good.

Lastly, in the 3rd, I would like us to address TE. I was all over Hernadez last season and I was right. Having a great TE like Shanc is great but having a pass specialist that is too big for CBs but too fast for Lbs would be a good look as well. Besides, Sauce is gonna be gone one day.

First ... we are not freeing up ANY cap money ... because there was no cap ... and we have no idea if or what kind of cap there will be if a CBA is reached.

Second ... we do not have a third round pick.

Third ... addressing no defense with the first three picks we do have? We are going to need defensive line depth and help and need to make a move for a safety at some point.

Fourth ... did you think we would get Luck? I still am guessing that we are leaning toward QB at No. 12, but with Luck gone that means we likely are not getting a shot at Gabbert, Newton or Mallet and will have to pull the trigger on Locker.

Fifth ... all of this is crazy anyways because we are not going to pony up for Champ who will still get paid by somebody.

We need to worry about keeping the guys we have before worrying about who to bring in. I would love some CB depth, especially if Cook and Griff do not look like they will get full health by camp. But I can't see us ponying up for Champ with the kind of money we will need to spend to keep Greenway and Rice who are must keeps.
