Culpepper pscyhoed out and started sending emails to the associated press and they inked TJack.
BJ had a reasonable season taking over the team after 'small hands' blew out his knee.
So, they put BJ in as the starter with the idea that TJack would learn on the sidelines.
When BJ folded and TJack was tossed into the mix his rookie year it was a bad decision to have nothing going in the QB slot going into the '07 season with the likes of Bollinger and Holcomb in the shadows and a never-has-played-any-competition-worth-mentioning rookie QB leading the team with absolutely no competition in the shadows.
That being said, BJ played wonderfully when asked to take the reigns when Romo hurt his pinky.
He tossed for 427 yds ant 2 TDs (ignoring that this was in 3 games and he had 5 INTS and 8 sacks and fumbled once).
his arm is worse than favre's with a banged up shoulder!!..
Given all the needs on the team at the time and the Daunte psychopath ordeal it was a reasonable decision.
Going into '07 having TJack as the starter was a much more irrational decision.
A guy from Alabama State that played a couple games in '07 and was more raw than Gianna Michaels on a Saturday night.
But I was in the minority here. The majority of the PP.O fan base said Johnson would be fine & "he had a ring".
They were wrong. Mobility was an issue as well, as our o-line in 2006 was one of the worst in the NFL
There was a glut of QB's available in FA & we could have easily found an upgrade that would have given us the 2 years we needed to bring Jackson along. One only needed to look at the record of the teams Johnson won & the teams that he lost to & surmise he didn't have what it took to start.

Unfortunately that wasn't the case.
Not only were his skills on the down hill side when we brought him in again, they quickly deterioated the next year.
Kindof makes me think of two vets on the current roster that some say need to go but others keep saying will be find next year.... :

Lest you remember the team started out 4-2 and beat good teams like Washington and Carolina to start the year.
It took a while for the KAO to really start screwing up the team. But once it got a choke hold on the offense we finally got to see it and Childress's coaching prowress in all of it's glory when Belichick came in and showed him how coaching is done.

It was a reasonable and calculated risk at the time and one of the reasons we are in the QB quandry that we are in.

The timing in my mind tracks that way.
My point is more along the lines of if they thought Johnson could hold down the fort until Cutler got ready.
Course he couldn't, Culter was to expensive and we are now were we are now because ultimately, Pepp copped an attitude......Or do you believe the Chiller didn't think Pepp could run his offense?
I think the difference between Pepp/Lord Dickhead was the prime reason the Chiller liked the situation and opted to take the job instead of going to GB and at least interviewing there. Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.

Trade talks didn't become public until mid-February, so it's a safe bet they were discussing it way before that.
They too probably felt that BJ had another year in him, but instead of looking at the lackluster teams that BJ won against, they threw their eggs in one basket & being the *cough* guru that he is, hoped to get someone in the draft for the 2007 season.

If he made that reach in planning on Cutler before the draft even happened and then just threw up his hands when it didn't work he is worse off that I ever imagined.

Quick question, do you think that they don't have a myriad of draft scenario's worked up in the warroom on who they want to take, who they think (other teams) want to take and were they think those cats will go?and then just threw up his hands when it didn't work he is worse off that I ever imagined.
I do, and that is one of the biggest issues I had with Foley.
He didn't seem to have a clue that the Jets were interested in Clemens, that Griff and Cook would/could have gone later.....
Again, don't you think that kindof discussions/plans/scenarios are talked about in the halls of Winter Park? Many many thanks to my talented friend Jos for the new Sig.
