Booty looking good...! (+ a little game overview )

    SeaChickens vs. Vikings reviews... http://mvn.com/nfl-vikings/

I M H O - Booty was looking good ! He had the most completions on the Vikes (9), and putting the ball right at the receivers in the vast majority of the case !

All right, I am mostly a T-Jack fan, and ALL of our QBs looked good. You had to watch it, and also understand the Game plan here. Yes, we 'lost' the game...Pre-Season game. But, the Vikes Coaching Staff totally altered the normal game plan to see what THEY wanted to see. What they saw included ( Positive stuff first ):

    T-Jack looked SHARP !
    ( Game reviews, Stats here - http://scores.espn.go.com/nfl/boxscore?gameId=280808016 )

Yes, the SeaChickens had to prepare to stop the run...yet almost all of his passes were on the mark. He put a little too much mustard on a short one, but of his incompletions the defender either committed Interference, or could have been charged with it.

Frerotte looked just fine - just like a Vet should.

    Bollinger looked "Ok". nothing bad.

Yah, Booty fumbled one when caught from behind, and threw a pick on the very LAST play of the game on a tipped ball ( actually he had 3-4 tipped ), yet I was watching him quite a bit to see if he threw "wounded ducks" ( he did not ), or "worm burners ( like I saw Wade Wilson, and Duante Culpepper throw in their first Pre-Season games, 10, and 20 years ago)" - Booty did not do that either. He threw a quick out with some zip, and pretty good touch on the rest of em'. SO, consider relaxing a LITTLE you uptight Vikes Purple nail biters !

AD did not make a carry, and as a matter of fact they did not do 1 run up the field the whole first Quarter. So, the Defense started playing the pass later on...hence the tipped balls from Booty, etc. as we were 14+ points down.

IF we hadda run the ball we would have worn down their Defense, and passed like crazy, AND run like crazy on them all of the 4th quarter AND won the thing. THAT was not the game plan though.
Rookie Albert Young ran, and CAUGHT the ball well out of the backfield. GOOD Kick Return by Reynaud, and Punt Return by Jaymar !

I M O our PASS D- did NOT look good, and really the RUN D for that matter. It did not look like they were serious.

FUMBLES killed us as I THINK there were (?)5.

Chris Kluwe BOOMED the ball 50+ pretty much every time against the Team who "cut" him to allow him to become a Vike.

At least that is the way I saw it last night.

IMHO Booty didn't look that good.
At least not good enough to warrant his own thread/game assesment.
    ;D

    Pocket awareness sucked.
He should have felt the pressure even though the LT didn't give him time.

He held the ball way to long.

He really only looked at one reciever and didn't progress through his reads.

But in all honesty, that is all to be expected of the kid.
He will get better with time and should be the number 3 QB behind TJ and Gus.

considering we traded up for this guy instead of picking Colt Brennan, who looked great his first game, I'm really diappointed in how he performed.
His pocket awareness sucked (o line didn't help though) passes weren't that great and a few got tipped.
I honestly don't think he will ever start as a viking unless he's filling in because of injury.
Thats not based on the one performance, thats just my thoughts about him.

I don't know how blinded you are. Booty definitely did not look good in this game. He didn't look like the worst QB ever, but he definitely did not look good.

I think Booty looked like well ... Booty he didn't look like Ryan Leaf , but he definately wasn't good , was real impressed with T.Jack , the defense was iffy but it was nice to see Jared Allen get some pressure on Hasselbeck.

Re: Booty looking good...! (+ a little game overview )

Ok, I understand your points. I do agree that he did not look "great", and he did not look horrible.

The reason I put - "good" is that he was behind the 2nd -3rd string line ( yes, against a similar defense ), AND it was becoming increasingly obvious that THIS Game plan was to "Pass". So, the
D-line was pass rushing most of the time, aware of keeping their hands up ( hence tipped balls ).

I actually thought he looked "OK" back there for the very first game ever, and 'yes' he did rush some throws. But, if you watch a lot of the replays the ball was almost ALWAYS heading for the receiver, not a "worm burner", or a 'true' pick. I wrote that he looked "good" in comparison to what I remember that I saw the likes of Terry Bradshaw, Wade Wilson, Duante Culpepper, Steve Young, etc., and a LOT of more QBs in their first game; he looked above average - "good".

In what I would expect in the very first stage of a learning curve he still looked "good". 9 for 18 in
your FIRST game ever, when they KNOW you are mostly passing, when you are DOWN by 14+ the whole time...this performance was "good".

+ just for the fun of it re-read the rest of the game observations. : )

Re: Booty looking good...! (+ a little game overview )

Booty looked like a typical rookie QB in his first preseason game.
Some good things, some bad things, and some things to work on.

    Just my $.02 worth.

For a first game...esp. after only 4 (?) practices in pads...I'd say that he did alright.
Not great, but exactly what you'd expect from a late round pick.

    That was to easy.
Stick to your guns, try to convince us you were right and we are wrong my friend.
Its what makes this board so much fun.

    JK, another nice post.
    Thanks.

Re: Booty looking good...! (+ a little game overview )

Booty definitely has things to work on.
Finding good passing lanes if most important, with 3 tipped balls, one resulting in the INT.
His pocket awareness wasn't great, but the 3rd string O-line wasn't giving him much of a chance.

What I did like was how he threw the ball, it was crisp and very accurate, given the 2 dropped balls which hit the receivers in the hands.
What I wanted to see is a ball thrown beyond 20 yards and not alot of dumpoffs.
But given the time he had it could be expected.

The thought someone could say that he would never be a Vikings starter after 1 preseason game with 3rd string OL and receivers, is hillarious.

I hope Chiller puts him ahead of Brook next week, so he can work more with the 2nd string.
