Thread: Best guesses for Vikes FA

This is from USA Today. Nothing official just their best guesses and I guess their as good as anyones.

FREE AGENT UPDATE:

�RB Michael Bennett (almost certain to be playing elsewhere next season)

�CB Ralph Brown (future uncertain with new defensive coach staff coming in)

�SS Corey Chavous (unhappy with his contract, he is expected to leave)

�LB Sam Cowart (if Vikings' are going to go to a Cover-2 scheme, veteran won't be this team's middle linebacker in 2006)

�K Paul Edinger (struggled from 30 to 39 yards, but should return unless new staff has someone else in mind)

�G Toniu Fonoti (has potential but there are questions about whether he can get his weight under control)

�C Melvin Fowler (desire to start could mean he'll go elsewhere)

�QB Shaun Hill (third-stringer is almost certainly gone)

�DE Lance Johnstone (pass-rush specialist might be considered a starter elsewhere)

�LB Keith Newman (might not fit into Cover-2 defense)

�S Willie Offord (injury ended his season early and certainly reduced his market value)

�WR Koren Robinson (Vikings have the right to match any offer)

�LB Raonall Smith (special-teams ace might sign elsewhere if it means more playing time)

�CB Brian Williams (looking for assurances he will be a starter)

�RB Moe Williams (expected to retire after finishing the season on injured reserve because of a knee injury)

�C Cory Withrow (could return to a backup role with Matt Birk expected to start in 2006)

If the Vikings can sign a good power running RB and can sign Bennett on the cheap it would be a great combination. Wear out the defenses with power and let Bennett do some running. One of many options available.

On a side note....damn, my lab has some nasty smelling toots, she needs to go outside...I'm ready to faint here.

andra davis, akin ayodele, adam archuleta..nuff said

I'm all for picking up Adam Archuleta and Will Allen.

I Think Jamal Lewis and Michael Bennett ,Moore,Smith,Fason would be a nice RB rotation. Unless we can get Shaun Alexander or James.

me too, but some lb's like the ones i mentioned would be nice pickups as well with all the cash weve got

if we get jamal lewis, then there is no need to keep bennett if smith is coming back..all that will cause is a constant controversy amongst the first 4 you mentioned..bennett and moore both believe they are the #1, that would cause major trouble if you bring smith back and have them all bitching over whose #2

I want Akin Ayodele and LeCharles Bentley/Steve Hutchinson.

we know that you cant have enough good backs..but why do you need 4 guys that are worth starting somewhere in this league..if you get lewis, then you let bennett go and use that money elsewhere..we have much bigger needs to address than RB..id be fine with bringing smith back to backup moore if we cant land jamal lewis..we need to concentrate on getting fast and athletic linebackers that can cover guys like the cover 2 defense requires, especially since the lbs we have are completely lost when having to cover someone..a safety to replace chavous is also a major concern, as well as whether to throw alot of money at b will or not (i say no)
